Ideally, the middle hinges on the first joint past the knuckle, everything past the last joint hits your palm at the exact same moment, and you cannot see it move from the start of the motion to the end. (rant over, it's very early morning so forgive the lack of direction)

the popped bubble is what causes the snapping sound, your pointer is totally useless so make sure it looks cool. The sound is cleanest on very slightly wet hands (i.e. getting sweaty), and ensure the middle hits perpendicular to your palm for the best surface area/contact time ratio

snapping works by forming a cone of air with your ring and pinky fingers and rapidly closing it by quickly slamming your middle finger down to pop the air pocket you made, similarly to dropping a heavy textbook perfectly flat on the floor and it being way louder than a normal drop
