Coptis trifolia, goldthread, blooming in a shaft of sunshine that snuck through the taller plants. The white 'petals' are actually sepals. The petals are reduced to narrow clubs tipped with a golden nectary. You can see a few amongst the stamens. #botany #Photography
A small white flower facing into the sun in a narrow shaft of light falling between the stems of taller plants. The white sepals fan outwards horizontally from the flower, which has a spray of several dozen stamens around 3 or 4 pistils with curving stigmas. The tiny blooms of Diapensia laponica are a special treat for fieldwork in #Labrador. The stems are only 1-3cm tall. The little flowers look robust, but I've learned they only last a few days in the short northern summer. #botany #photography #Makkovik

A paper book, opened to show two columns of text. The rows are ordered alphabetically, each starting with what appears to be a name on the left, and connected by a row of dots to a seven digit number on the right. Some of the rows are set in a larger bold font. One of them is highlighted in yellow.

A little editing project: straight out of camera vs after editing, to be printed at 12"x18". One of my favourites from my June trip to #Labrador. Perfect timing catching the sunlight filtering through the alders onto this single bakeapple bloom. #botany #Photography
Before: a 15 image stack, as processed by the camera.

A white flower with four petals and several dozen yellow anthers in a spotlight of sunshine. The flower is glowing, with reddish green half-unfurled leaves cradling it in the shadows. After: the same image, after editing each of the 15 images in RawTherapee, stacking in ZereneStacker, and a final tweak of the composite image in RawTherapee.

The light on the flower is brighter, and the colour more vibrant, the contrast with the gloomy backdrop bringing more contrast to the scene

Another portrait of Pinguicula villosa. The flower is less than 1 cm from the edge of the bottom lip to the tip of the spur! I needed 40 shots to get the whole flower in focus. #botany #photography #NewfoundlandLabrador
A single purple flower. The petals are bilabiate, with three lobes pointing downards, and two pointing up. The petals are pale purple, with a yellow patch streaked with dark purple at the throat. A tubular spur points upwards behind the flower.

The flower stalk is covered with tiny gland-tipped hairs.

Framing the flower on either side are Empetrum (crowberry or blackberry) twigs. The Empetrum leaves are less than 1 cm long themselves, but the branches tower over the tiny Pinguicula stem.
