@stefanwey.bsky.social Not to be "that guy" but your Powershell module listed here does not in fact "contain no functional code", it collects telemetry. Should either remove that or update the description. www.powershellgallery.com/packages/Ent...

@patrick.risky.biz you've made fun of Firefox more than 1 time in a month, I'm deeply saddened now. 😭 lol

Yeah I mean it's hard to know for sure which direction was true, we might never know. But either way, I'm glad they have this feature, it's far better than the alternative browsers.

I'm going to sound crazy here, but for some reason I get the vibe a kill switch was intended and just not done before people yelled about it. I might be wrong and maybe I'm giving them too much credit, but they got it done pretty fast if it was based on user backlash.

Anyway, maybe my concern is misplaced, it just rubbed me wrong. Normally I find Risky Biz sponsors to be excellent so it just felt like a contrast. TBH one of the few podcasts I actually WANT to listen to the sponsored sections most of the time.

I still heavily dislike their privacy policy, good breakdown here: medium.com/@ItsNotNicol... On that note, YES actually I do avoid every company he has backed, however, that's not because of him, it's just coincidence because they are all shit lol. So fair point regardless.

@patrick.risky.biz Goona be honest, an episode sponsored by Persona sort of bugs me. Their backed by Peter Thiel, have had privacy issues in the past, were at the center of the Discord discourse recently, etc. They've also got some weird stuff in their privacy policy about who they share data with.

Anyone defending DLSS 5 is like hallucinating or something. It looks like trash, and these were the hand picked examples by NVidia themselves lol.

Thinking back on one of the weirdo convos that happened on here yesterday, I feel like I need to make sure everyone knows that those of us who think EVs are the future of cars are like... not at all married to lithium. We just think batteries are good! We're open to any kind of battery! In fact,

Every company right now: "we laid people off because AI is so good, totally not because the economy is suffering and this is an excuse to make our stock go up" Meanwhile, AWS has a 13 hour outage thanks to adopting AI. WTF are we doing.

I'm so happy to see that MCP is being done right with #xcpng. Having it setup so it's an add-on and completely optional is the right way to do it, I don't really want my hosts being touched by AI anything lol.

The low profile Keychron board is in, time to see if I like this or not. Been like 6 years since I used a low profile unit.

This thing running #CoreELEC is literally the best media player you can get, absolutely impressed.

I honestly can't decide if I want to use my clicky keyboard with OEM style caps or my tactile board with KSA keycaps lol. Too many great options.

At some point I am going to do a video about Blu-ray failure rates because it's actually insane how many are scratched by default out of the box to the point of being unreadable. Manufacturers really need to take more care.

Ethan Word @planedrop.bsky.social · 01/02/2026

#Keychron #Q1Ultra first impressions, I'm sorry, but this thing sucks. And that's a first for a Keychron keyboard for me. Out of the box these new POM Brown switches are mushy, too quiet, slow to respond, and have no tactility whatsoever.

The Ugoos AM6B+ flashed with CoreELEC is working exactly as intended and I can finally watch my 4k rips in native bit perfect quality.

So far my experience with Windows on ARM has been surprisingly good actually. Going to work on a dedicated video about it, but it's the most stable Windows experience I've had on a laptop.

000 0

Ethan Word @planedrop.bsky.social · 19/01/2026

Yeah but for people like me that rip 4k DoVi content, it'll only playback without transcoding on a very very small handful of devices. I'd love to just completely prevent it from trying so if one of my users tries to playback the 4k on an unsupported device they just get an error.

000 0

Ethan Word @planedrop.bsky.social · 19/01/2026

It would be really cool if @jellyfin.org could make it so you can adjust transcode settings on a per Library basis. This way you could have a 4k library but tell the system to never transcode that library so you don't end up asking your GPU to transcode anything 4k by mistake.

I love how the Windows Clipboard has been bugged for years now where it just doesn't copy things sometimes when you do a copy operation. I'm sure all the AI coding Microsoft is using is helping with stability.

Ranked in Marvel Rivals is basically play time, not skill, and that's really sad. It's just like how Apex Legends used to do it, you're matched against people with your skill level regardless of the rank you are in. So constantly I fight Celestials while being in Diamond.

I have now been 1 match from ranking up to Grand Master in #MarvelRivals on 8 separate occasions, each time no matter how good the team I am with is, it's a super 1 sided match where we get destroyed. Keep trying to say this doesn't have #eomm it absolutely does.

Marvel Rivals Ranked: Grandmaster Today?

YouTube video by Ethan Word

Marvel Rivals ranked system is the most broken and blatantly obvious EOMM system I've ever seen. Every rank up match I have is absolutely horrible, I was on my GM rank up match and end up fighting a 4 stack of recent Celestial III.

000 0

Ethan Word @planedrop.bsky.social · 01/01/2026

#MarvelRivals ranked system is so absolutely EOMM and rigged it's actually insane. Blatantly lying to the public about not using EOMM is nuts, it's too consistently flawlessly engagement farming. 1 match before GM and it gives me literally the worst teamates I've ever had period.

Yeah I should have reference this actually. But yes, basically this but a high end unit like the X Elite or something like that. The benefits of high end ARM and the benefits of right to repair would be great. I know RAM would not be socketed but still.

Been using a Surface Laptop 7 with Snapdragon X Elite lately and I gotta say I am REALLY impressed so far. But, I wish @frame.work would get ARM at some point, this device goes against all my principles of right to repair etc....

The amount Google Workspace advertises their own upgrade services within a paid service is absurd, multiple times a day I am shown "upgrade to AI ultra" and "upgrade to business plus" it's so insane.

I switched from Stelo to Lingo for my continuous glucose monitor and so far it's FAR better. Readings are faster, way more accurate, it's more comfortable, and easier to install.

Hear me out, modern phones should absolutely have a 2 stage shutter button on the right hand side like Xperia still does. Apple messed it up on the iPhone but regardless it would be so nice to have. Also bring Xperia back to the US please.
