Cel shaded games have looked cool as hell forever even when the hardware was less up to the task Admittedly at the time I dunno if I would have imagined it as good for CG rather than a compromise to mimic 2D, and some of the cel shaded CG that did exist kinda looked like a cheap alternative to 2D
