Looking in an advertising database, @drewhobbs.bsky.social identified 85 regional or county magazines in England in 2025... I loved Matt Davies' slide with the covers of the 17 produced by the same publishing company, Newsquest, which is in the business of capitalistic cost cutting... #ESPRit2026

Nice discussion in the Q&A following Gary Kelly's declared political opposition to the *Chester Life* @drewhobbs.bsky.social points out that we should study the techniques of all print, inc. fascist magazines The actual editors' views don't necessarily align with those in the magazines #ESPRit2026

We're closing with a deep-dive into the *Cheshire Life* Loving how Matt Davies is situating us (and his own life trajectory) on a map of Cheshire! He hesitates to say he's from Cheshire because people will tend to this of 👇 TV show, which premiered in 2015 & is into its 19th season... #ESPRit2026

Matt Davies leads the Cheshire Life Digitisation Project & ties the magazine's success to how it: 1️⃣exudes positivity 2️⃣unites disparate elements of the county 3️⃣asserts uniqueness without putting other counties down 4️⃣claims to be the epitome of Englishness 5️⃣constructs an imagined community #ESPRit2026

Next up is @drnaomiwalker.bsky.social about Beatrice Tunstall (1889-1966): "Born and grew up in in Grappenhall. As a best selling novelist she based herself in Cheshire. Her subject matters were Cheshire customs, local histories and the countryside." —Warrington Women: An Historical A-Z #ESPRit2026
Local author Beatrice Tunstall described the village of Marbury near Nantwich in 1948 as "far from the madding crow", and praised the "ancient lanes, deep trodden by the feet of endless generation, flower fringed amid the woodlands, with great hedges where honeysuckle and wild roses riot". (Latham, 1999)

I'm amused by how two different regional institutions, 20 miles apart, are claiming Beatrice Tunstall as their own: - the Cheshire Local History Association @clha.bsky.social - the Warrington Museum and Art Gallery In addition to being a writer, she was an actress. #ESPRit2026
