Currently in a vicious cycle of utter despair and exhaustion in the process of writing my thesis and finding it so overwhelmingly interesting that I can't stop. Is this a normal autistic-nearing-the-end-of-the-PhD experience? 🤔

Exciting opportunity to take part in some research! My masters student is looking for parents of children aged 4–18 currently awaiting an autism diagnosis, for a study on how parents see their child's emotion regulation during the wait. One 40-min chat on Teams. Details below 👇

Ah, the weekly crisis of the shops are closed and I didn't plan my work lunch ahead of time. What higgledy piggledy creation will I end up with? 🤦🏻‍♀️

Very nice preprint demonstrating that LLMs perpetuate myths about autism: arxiv.org/pdf/2601.22893. Not massively surprising. Thank you to @pkwalkersharpe.bsky.social for flagging it up (I did look for the authors but I don’t think they’re on here)

Something I don't see talked about enough: doing a PhD as an autistic person means almost everything takes longer. Not because you're less capabe, but because there are layers of processing that others don't have to do. Thread 🧵

Name one thing you've done that you're proud of, and one thing someone else has done that you're proud of by proxy. 1) overcome agoraphobia thanks to a wonderful neuroaffirming therapist 2) my PhD student @pkwalkersharpe.bsky.social's recent paper about semantic processing in autism. Kapowww

Wonderful paper reframing autistic neologisms (inventing new words) as linguatype (an autistic way of speaking) rather than a deficit onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1... (with thanks to the ever-excellent @pkwalkersharpe.bsky.social for flagging it up!)

Sometimes, when I want to feel something, I just google scholar 'autism' and sort by the most recent. I can always count on this body of literature/this method of searching for literature to cause indescribable amounts of rage.
