PKster @pkster101.bsky.social · 03/09/2026

Cheers. Very distinctive! I may not have noticed them otherwise. It still took me a couple hours to get the first photos, because they just wouldn't settle for more than a split second, and a return visit to get the footage, by which time I'd tuned in to them a little better.

I'd seen one all year then last week, two in two days, including this one.

PKster @pkster101.bsky.social · 16/07/2026

That's looking from the opposite direction, so all the vegetation you can see on the left is gone, cut back by over 20ft. The worry being, that becomes the new 'normal' mowing line, whoever does the mowing next time.

100

PKster @pkster101.bsky.social · 13/07/2026

Would you believe, Brighton Council contacted me about it today? Talking of which, would you believe, the mowers came back and cut that road and other areas back even further! It's now been cut back over 21 feet from the road!

PKster @pkster101.bsky.social · 13/07/2026

I've now been told this is one of just three currently known colonies in Sussex. It's a transient species, so colonies can disappear and reappear...

I emailed Sussex Dragonflies to alert them and ask if anything could be done to help the species at the site, and quickly received a response. I understand one of their numbers is going to investigate further?

100

PKster @pkster101.bsky.social · 09/07/2026

They're actually quite difficult to photograph without disturbing them, as they are very slight and tend to hide amongst low vegetation. This also means they might be under recorded?
