And not wanting to support Platner specifically because of his military record is also bad. But not wanting to support Platner because he’s a sexist and an abuser with a Nazi tattoo is fine- really? Is this a straw that breaks the camel’s back situation, or what? end/

I just have a hard time understanding the logic here. If someone didn’t want to support Harris or Biden because they’re unhappy about their support for Israel, that’s bad- genocide isn’t a good reason to withhold votes when the opponents are fascists. 3/

Like, the worst thing about him- that he murdered brown people overseas for fun (and it was for fun, he commented on Reddit that he joined the military because he ‘wanted to have an adventure and kill some people’)- is something we’ve known about from day one. Why is that not disqualifying? 2/

I want to preface this by saying that I don’t live in Maine & I’m not a supporter of Platner, and I’m also not trying to be an edgelord, or an asshole, or a contrarian. This is a genuine question: why are his misogyny & tattoos the red line? 1/

No, a candidate telling me to leave would not make me more likely to vote for them. OTOH, he could have just not said anything.

Is it really? I’m not trying to be a smartass, that was a genuine question. Like, I’m an autistic lefty. Democrats paying lip service to my positions without actually adopting or pursuing them is why I’ve hated them for years. Do normal people really go for that stuff?

So all the dems have to do to be immune from criticism forever is convince the GOP to keep pushing MAGA candidates, then? It doesn’t matter how bad a Democrat is, if their opponent is worse then anything other than fawning adoration is fascistic?

I can- sort of, maybe, a little bit- understand this. I voted for Kamala in 2024, but if she was the nominee in 2028 I’d probably just stay home. I’d take it as a sign that the Democrats would rather lose over & over again than try & make things even a little bit better for regular people.

That’s *why* liberals are saying it’s an unrealistic strategy! They fear their base taking over the Democrats infinitely more than they fear another decade of MAGA. They need to nip that possibility in the bud.

Maybe I’m not online enough to really notice, but I didn’t see anyone complaining about Shaun. Contrapoints, yes- and to a lesser extent Hbombergiy & PT- but not Shaun.

…Shaun did make a Gaza video, though? And seemed confused by Contra’s beliefs when he commented on them earlier?

Sort of? I was a social democrat before going bald (though I called myself a communist; blame American edition + a conservative family.) Bald now; still have some SocDec sympathies, but I’m far more radical now. When I call myself a socialist, it’s no longer because I think the Dems are commies.

Massive exodus from the NYPD, eh? Don’t threaten me with a good time.

I could be wrong here, but the first thing I thought of when she mentioned ‘privatization of land’ wasn’t the emergence of agriculture, but the enclosure of common lands. There’s a several thousand year gap there, and your pro-agriculture arguments (which I agree with) wouldn’t necessarily apply.

Very sorry 😞 Always tragic when you lose a pet.
