I'll be honest, I don't really like the word #innovation. Or maybe I just don't like how it's used. SCIE's Innovation Through #Coproduction event for #CoproductionWeek got me thinking about hard questions we need to be asking rn. #copro #researchethics #socialcare #ppi @centreforcare.bsky.social

Title: Innovation Through Coproduction.
Caption: Does 'innovation' always have to be about chasing the latest shiny thing?
Illustration: two people walking on a road, one with thought bubble of a diamond, another with a thought bubble of a light bulb.

Caption: What if 'innovation' meant developing ideas that centre community priorities in new, more equitable, or more sustainable ways?
Illustration: Three people, one sitting in a chair, one standing with an arm raised, one sitting in a wheelchair with arms on wheels. They are surrounded by speech bubbles saying 'dignity!', 'justice!, 'belonging!', 'access!', 'respect!', 'choice!', 'agency!'.

Caption: Inspired by SCIE (Social Care Institute of Excellence), we're interested at Centre for Care in what innovation through coproduction could look like.
Illustration: Back of a person wearing a Centre for Care t-shirt in the foreground, with a view of the SCIE 'Innovation through Coproduction Westminster Reception' in the background, where people are gathered listening to a speaker.

Caption: For us, the first step has to be asking some difficult questions...
Illustration: Side profiles of four people's faces emerging from the edge of the page, with the following questions between them highlighted in red: Who defines innovation and who benefits? What kinds of labour are visible and valued? What systems include or exclude? What power dynamics shape collaboration? Can innovation mean slowing down or saying no?
