Aka's Pixel Pods @pixelpods.ca · 23/09/2026

New species alert! I had seen these kids around a few times, but finally found a starter culture locally. Armadillidium espanyoli, or Marbleized! Each one is so different than the other, I'm excited to see what little variations come out with each of them 💗

Potion seller sold me their finest potions 🔮✨ Cute lil jp line magic potions! These kids are always a little tricky? But recently they've been getting stronger again~ #Isopods

4 Magic Potion isopods, Armadillidium vulgare, are huddled in some cozy substrate. They're very light yellow with darker yellow spots and little black freckles.

A couple more pineapples :> They're just so neat

When the Zebras all have the same favourite rock... sometimes they cling to the vent grid just to be close to it lol (they have excellent air flow, multiple vents and monitored humidity/temp. They're just being silly)

Panda Pile! Cleaning out a larger tank and found a BUNDLE of Panda King isopods in there. So I had to work through each layer of dirt to find them all, pluck them out with a lil wooden spoon, and drop them off in a cup with lettuce :) A little treat after their hide n seek win lol

Aka's Pixel Pods @pixelpods.ca · 03/09/2026

Another pod pile, Laevis! I have one bin for just Dairy Cows but also one for the trio - Orange, Wild, and Dairy Cows. I really like the combo bins, they're just so interesting to watch the different personalities uvu #Isopods #Laevis #DairyCowIsopod

Can you tell Panda Kings were really active last time I was feeding? Lol all of them seemed to come out and hang out EXACTLY where I could get my little macro lens? #PandaKing #Isopods #Cubaris

🥕 Carrot Cuties 🥕 How cute are they!! 🥺 I love them~ #PandaKing #Isopods #Cubaris

Two cubaris isopods (panda kings) share a carrot. Happily munching on it together. Like a little mother daughter sort of vibe. Just the CUTEST!

Gathering up for dinner~ or is this a "HOP ON POP" sort of situation. Either way, tasty dust lol #PandaKings #Cubaris #Isopods

A large adult panda king is trying to eat, while two young baby isopods climb all over his face also eating lol it's very much so like a dad just trying to eat dinner but his kids are far too excited for him to be home in order for him to actually eat because they're using him like a jungle gym....except isopods

020

Aka's Pixel Pods @pixelpods.ca · 31/07/2026

Orange Pak! A wee little orange pak showed up while I was looking at another adult. They're really kicking off lately 🙌 #Pakchong #isopods #cubaris

A three image collage of Pak Chong isopods (cubaris). One is an adult with typical brown colours with lighter details, the other is a youngster thats nearly completely orange.

These kids always seem to come out when my macro lens is put away...then run away when I get it out. 😭 BUT BABIES!! 🥰 there are so many now, I'm so excited for my tiny little colony to grow

Three baby pineapple isopods (Cristarmadillidium muricatum) in their vivarium! They are munching on a piece of leaf litter, growing their adorable little spikies and sweet peachy orange colouration.

Cristarmadillidium muricatum, a pineapple spiky isopod adult is seen in and amongst their substrate and leaf litter.

Magic magic potions~ ✨️ Adding some more to my small starter culture, these ones are definitely brighter and much more lively! 🔮🪄 #isopods #Armadillidium #magicpotion

A couple Magic Potion Isopods (japanese line) are huddled together. THey're mostly white, but with little speckles of black and yellow spots. Each one is entirely unique because of these!
They are the Japanese line, which means their spots are much more scattered and yellows less blotchy than the American line Magic Potions.

The #WRCE was full of tempting critters, but with a move coming up I stuck to just a couple critters - specifically these Pak Chong isopods I've had on my wishlist for quite a while! They're so cute 😍 Cubaris sp. Pak Chong Kiddos are settling in nicely so far!

Pak Chong are named after the Thailand area they're typically found. They come in many different variations, but these ones pictured are majority a deep woody brown with near blue accents and the CUTEST little orange sections! They are active and adventurous, loving leaf litter and digging around. Their clear features make them a favourite amongst Cubaris lovers

Good morning from the Gestroi cuddle puddle~

A macro close up photo of Armadillidium gestroi; or Golden Spot isopod. There are a few of them bundled together, but this one is in focus. You can see details like it's adorable lil face, compound eyes, and hard shell details. It is mostly dark grey, but gets it's name from the vibrant yellow spots in 4 rows along it's back! It even has one yellow spot just above it's face, like a little crown.

Aka's Pixel Pods @pixelpods.ca · 02/05/2026

Testing out the Apexel zoom macro and light lens! I have a DSLR camera, but wanted something that was easier to pack around and just snap quick to my phone. So far, pretty wicked how much of a difference it makes!!

A macro lens attachment is used to get a closer photo of a panda king isopod! So close that you can see the little pattern lines on their shell <3

Another cutie in the running for Prettiest Panda 😂 I am always so excited to see little variations in these kids, i prefer to pick them out and keep them separate not only in the hopes that they make more - but also so that when I'm picking pods for orders they're all as expected.

A very light and pinky coloured Panda King isopod.

Aka's Pixel Pods @pixelpods.ca · 29/04/2026

Hello cutie!! 😍🤍 Found in one of my Panda King terrariums, I'm going to start a "pretty panda" bin lol just for the weird and wonderfuls~ #isopods #pandaking #cubaris

032

Aka's Pixel Pods @pixelpods.ca · 25/02/2026

Every once in a while a Panda King appears in my big terrarium of Golden Spots lol The colony is populating like crazy, but that also means they're getting a lot of food so whatever Panda's are in there are eating well.

A group of isopods are gathered on a large piece of carrot! Sharing a meal together are a few Golden spot isopods (Armadillidium gestroi's) and a surprise Panda king (cubaris sp.) in there as well.

030

Aka's Pixel Pods @pixelpods.ca · 23/02/2026

I just love them so much~ Since getting these kids they've been slowly establishing themselves in their terrarium. I see more of the springtails, BUT I have started seeing the Pineapples more often <3 #PineappleIsopods #SpanishSpiky #Isopods

A spanish spiky isopod, also known as a Pineapple isopod or Cristarmadillidium muricantum sits on a piece of cork bark. It's tiny, adorable, and covered in little knobby spikes.
