Functionally, we demostrated that transition from CV to IVC represents a shift from a multifunctional embryonic vein to a specialized adult conduit adapted for high-volume blood return.

Here one of the functional divergence between CV and IVC. Rhodamine Dextran 10KDA is internalized by the embryonic cardinal vein ( fig. I, yellow arrowheads) but not by the IVC (fig.J) indicating that IVC lack the scavenger function characteristic of their CV counterparts!

We found that this vein-to-vein process is regulated by vegfa/flt1/dll4 axis.

Using lineare tracing tool we demostrated that IVC arise only from the venous source with no contribution of the #Artery or #lymphatic

In this panel, “flibow” tool was used to study the cellular original of the inferior Vena Cava. Venous sprouts from the cardinal vein ( fig. D, magenta arrowhead) give rise to the Inferior Vena Cava (fig. F, magenta arrowhead) .

In this work we discovered that during metamophosis there is a remodeling of Zebrafish Cardinal Vein followed by a replacement with the Inferior Vena Cava. This process mirrors the Human Inferior Vena Cava development, demostrating a conserved mechanism through the mammals.
