I LOVE lips, but once they reach a certain size i hate them completely. There's a real perfect middle ground you need to hit with them or they ruin the appeal of a characters face.

Also just a personal reminder that like 95% of all artistic improvement I’ve gone through has been from like 2023-2026. Which is nuts to me That one ego death moment of not being able to sketch on someone's pad at a con filled me with a ravenous need to improve, that I have no intention of losing.

I've long regretted not having a built up folder of refs. And while i reference quite a lot now it definitely feels like I’m playing catch up. DON'T LISTEN TO THE FOOLS. Use reference, experience lots of art, and experience a variety of art in different mediums. It's all beneficial to you.

Getting out there with my art and doing different things might be a fun thing to just do. Every month try a new medium or push into themes of subjects that i otherwise wouldn't look near. Could make a long term project out of it. Try and focus how I'm studying to improve more.

Even lil cartoony things and simple shapes my brain puts up a FIGHT and makes them boil back to my usual style over numerous correction layers. I'm hoping this is the start of me hyper fixating on this as an issue. Because if it is i should be able to actually sit down and do these things finally.

Painting, style studies, master studies are all very hard for me to do. And a lot of that really just boils down to lack of experience. I can't train these skills and my ability to see the things in them and break them down unless i DO them. And the low skill level really puts me off doing it.

And I'm not saying that in a bad way, the complete opposite in fact. Its really interesting to me. Because it shows IMMEDIATELY that there's a skill I need to grind away at and improve. Maybe a lot of it i think boils down to my poor observation skills. Which i dont think i've spent enough time on.

A lot of my recent art studies have gotten me really stuck on the idea of artistic range. I can draw pretty decently when doing furry smut, and have a good lil idea mill churning away. But get out of that wheel house and my skill level craters into the floor.

I don't think I've ever encountered one of these people. Maybe the odd "Her back must HURT" comment over the years. But the separation of reality from your depiction when you draw a character/species doesn't really matter as long as you enjoyed drawing it.
