I've always thought there's a whiff of distrust towards PIs by universities that filter PhD candidates before the PI can choose. Hire good people and then trust them. There's a contradiction implied in the alternative: we filter candidates because we don't trust the PIs we hired.

Apples v oranges. A country's $1tn GDP sees $1tn worth of *transactions*—wages paid, purchases, roads paved. It's *flow*. Musk's wealth isn't flow, it's stock value *on paper*, based on the market cap of his shares. He couldn't sell $10bn without inducing panic and tanking the price of the rest.

I warn my organic chemistry 1 students not to believe AI's authoritative tone. The example I give them is when it recommended against interpreting t-Bu-cyclohexane as an aromatic compound because the t-Bu group interferes with the π system.

In your experience, has the quality of reviewer comments in the past, say, decade, improved, stayed the same or diminished? Quality in the sense of in-depth engagement with the science, thoughtful feedback, etc., constructive suggestions, etc.

How can you be sure the editors chose reviewers from your list? Aren't they free to ignore those suggestions or mix and match? Or, perhaps those reviewers couldn't review the manuscript this time and alternative reviewers had to be approached.
