Personally, I am as interested about the past as I am about the idea of folklore as a living and fluctuating thing. I wrote a thing last year about making space for LGBTQ+ folks in the modern folk art, and Pride month seems suitable to share it again! Here:

Your labor as an artist matters and you should be compensated fairly. Yes, I’m aware that publishers aren’t endless money machines, but there is great pay disparity between creators and if we want a more sustainable an equitable comics business, that has to change.

A bright orange background. A young woman dressed as Marie Antoinette. Huge curly pastel pink hair pinned up rococo style. Extravagant dress with some tears and stitches. She is carrying a big tray covered with a dome, with blood dripping down and a bloody hand print visible on the dome.

But: is it a sign of being in your 30s when instead of relating to the angsty teen fictional characters you just want to give them a big hug and a bowl of soup? Asking for a friend.

✨ Blood of the covenant is thicker than water of the womb ✨

A detailed and ornate illustration stylised like a medieval manuscript. Big gothic font reads: Blood of the covenant is thicker than water of the womb. Below smaller text on a ribbon says: Nurture your found family. The text is surrounded with rich, surreal ornaments including an open pomegranate, bleeding heart flowers, bleeding heart dove, grape vines, a glowing red heart and two characters : a dancing frog and a rabbit riding on a snail.
