We discovered marinocyclins, a new antibiotic class from a coral-associated bacterium, active against colistin-resistant superbugs where last-resort drugs fail! They rupture bacterial membranes with striking precision. Congrats Clara and our collaborators at Tübingen and Lisbon! #Antibiotics #AMR

Broad‐Spectrum, Cell Envelope‐Active Marinocyclin Antibiotics From a Coral‐Derived Bacterium Are Effective Against Colistin‐Resistant Bacteria
Marinocyclins, polycationic macrocyclic depsipeptides, were discovered by genome mining from the marine coral-derived bacterium Aquimarina megaterium. The compounds have broad-spectrum activity again...

We found the uncultivated bacterium producing the anticancer drug candidate peloruside A and hiding in an NZ sponge! It uses a new biochemical trick in complex polyketide biosynthesis. Congrats Amy, our Victoria University NZ collaborators, and the whole team! #DrugDiscovery
