A drizzly, cold, mucky solo ride, reacquainting myself with fixed-gear cycling… without the usual Friday chat or cafe stop. Spent most of the time “tip-toeing” around on muddy roads but still… it’s true what they say… you never regret the rides you do, you only regret the rides you don’t do.

Another bike-themed Christmas project. Take a range of different wheel sizes, some wood, an old fake tree, 100 fairy lights (remote control, no less)… add a couple of hours work and some head-scratching… and we have a wee decoration for our outdoor, side-of-the-house, seating area.

One of the most valuable bike rides of the week is my Friday morning standard cafe ride with a bunch of mates. We spend almost as long drinking, eating and chatting as we do riding… and that’s what makes it so superb.

Another great night at the Velodrome in Newport for Angus, yesterday, racing in the A league against a field of 16 included riders from the Welsh development squad and even one chap who rides for the pro-team Decathlon AG2R Mondiale. He more than held his own, mixing it with the leaders throughout.
