So much crap these days but try to remember there’s a lot of people who get joy (and money) from making you forget the good and focus only on the bad. Get off the internet and go outside. Talk to actual people. Here’s Doug as a timeline cleanse:

So, you want to build a bokken with hand tools… (pt. Coming some time in the future)

There’s a statement about life in there somewhere, or about me as a person, but if I were smart enough to figure that out I wouldn’t be making a bokken with hand tools. I’d be the richest man in the world dueling Elon Musk with pistols at sunrise. Or whatever the richest man in the world does. Fuck ‘em.

A large rip saw next to the roughly cut out bokken. I used a fence to cut it this straight by hand. It went faster than I expected but it was still exhausting. If you’re rich and think I have a cute face, I’d accept a band saw for Christmas.

I’m winging all of this. Just figuring it out as I go. Much like I do anything else in life and again, there’s a statement in there; something to learn about myself. Yet, again, here we are.

The rough shape of the sword can be seen as I chisel the waste away. It sits on a workbench with a mallet and a 1inch chisel that rests on a leather glove.
