It's Sober October! Go alcohol-free for 31 days in October. Around 10 million UK adults regularly drink to levels which are harmful for health. By taking a month-long break, you can reset and re-evaluate your relationship with alcohol. Find alcohol and addiction resources under WM 274.

21-27 September is Organ Donor Week! There are over 8000 people in the UK waiting for a transplant to save or improve their lives. Only 1% of those who die in the UK are usually able to be donors. Each organ donor can save up to 9 other lives. Read more at www.organdonation.nhs.uk.

Today's H&S tip: do not let people tailgate. Closed security doors are a physical barrier protecting patient privacy and confidentiality. Allowing unauthorised personnel into restricted areas is a direct risk to staff and patients. It also raises chance of theft, vandalism, and data harvesting.

Today's H&S tip: keep doors shut. Shut doors are a physical barrier stopping airborne pathogens and slowing fires in the event of an emergency. They also protect patient privacy and confidentiality. Closing security doors behind you prevents unauthorised people accessing restricted areas.

Today's H&S tip: do not overload plug sockets! Overloading electric sockets forces excessive current through the wiring. This can melt insulation, damage components and even ignite. These fires may start behind walls or within sockets, making them hard to detect. Ask a fire warden for more info.

Today's H&S tip: always keep escape routes clear. Clear escape routes allow swift and safe emergency evacuations. Blocked corridors and stairwells can trap people inside buildings, delay rescues and allow fire to spread. Clutter can also fuel the fire. Report any obstructions to your manager.

Today's H&S tip: ensure your ID badge is clearly visible. ID badges mean that all Trust employees on duty are easily identifiable. This lets colleagues, patients and visitors identify staff and protects clinical areas from unauthorised personnel. Talk to security about any issues with your badge.

Today's H&S tip: clean soiled linen in a separate hot wash. All reusable textile items requiring disinfection via laundry processing, like bedding, curtains, and slide sheets, should be considered potentially infectious. Soiled items must be separated at ward level and placed in foul-linen bags.

Today's H&S tip: keep appliances off when not in use. Appliances left on when not in use can malfunction and cause sparks, leading to electric fires. Likewise, items with rechargeable batteries (mobile phones) can overheat, smoke, or catch fire if left plugged in after reaching full charge.
