There would probably be a continuous blue area if Canada was part of the map.

A dialect map of the United States showing the areas where my own dialect matches. There's a strong match zone across the Dakota's and extending east toward the Great Lakes, then another match zone over New England. If Manitoba, Ontario, and Québec were part of the map, you could imagine that zone reaching across through those provinces.

Show a comic panel you love Classic but goodie. In One Punch Man, Saitama's response to Lord Boros' display of power—and his resistance to his famous one-punch attack—is to just cold-blooded, unimpressed acknowledgement. This sums up my attitude toward so many things.

I'm trying to back up my 25-year-old childhood family computer to my NAS. It's going exactly as one might expect.

Windows XP attempting to connect to my NAS via SMB. An error message (in French) says that the server is no longer available.

The NAS is visible in the background, clearly powered on and online.

But, aside from some aesthetic differences and missing goodies (like toolbars; everything had to be accessed through menus instead), it still doesn't look radically different from the Excel we know now. Toolbars would make their debut in the following version, Excel 3.0, released in 1990.

I'm back on my (very neurodivergent) project of documenting old versions of popular software with screenshots and documentation excerpts. I always discover things I now take for granted that weren't so obvious back then, like "recently opened files" menu entries, or this:

#FCL2026 poutine review: an attempt was made. This restaurant, Nosh Kitchen & Bar, uses a mushroom sauce instead of proper gravy. The fries are very crispy and can't absorb the sauce. Cheese is legit but not fresh. 5/10

The @mtlgazette.bsky.social migrated to a new CMS this week, and now Google is showing me years-old articles as new. 😅

That article is from 2017 or 2018 (the date isn't available on the article itself). The tolls were later dropped entirely before the bridge opened in 2019.

SMB is the base of my existence. (I literally just configured that user and password on my NAS, and I can get in through both Web and SSH.)
