In 1938 iconic blues singer Lead Belly popularized “Stay Woke” referring to the "Scottsboro Nine" black youths falsely accused of raping white women in '31, nearly lynched, tried multiple times, before being released many years later. The ordeal scarred them. “STAY WOKE.” #BlackHistoryMonth
