Anthropic and OpenAI have some of the buggiest cloud platforms. Anthropic just prompted me to log in 4x in a row, OpenAI's chat window won't scroll to the bottom in Firefox properly. Anecdotal experiences, but why are these ML leaders publishing such buggy software when they have unlimited tokens?

The term "AI" was coined in the 1950s to describe a computer that can do human tasks. But humans have been talking about robots for much longer. A quick search found references in 5th century China. We humans basically have an agreed archetype of "What is AI". Modern ML companies have hijacked this.

Defining a depression by an unemployment rate makes no sense when the majority of people who are employed cannot afford basic necessities. We don't have today's numbers, but in 2024, 41.3% of American households had incomes below the amount needed to afford basic necessities.

I can't help but think while reading this how much these agents are a mirror of our own human behavior. The agents have all these books and examples of human behavior in training, I think they are acting that out because that's what they know.

The telephone was a more consequential invention than large language models. AI CEOs want you to think AI is a bigger deal but could you imagine a world without the telephone today? We'd all still be farming with locally made tools. What they sold was an illusion of science fiction

I keep hearing that the difference between the dotcom bubble and the AI bubble is that we have profitable companies today and back then we didn't. Difference now is we have arms of profitable companies making AI chatbots with no business strategy and calling it the future "AI" running tiny models.

I love the idea of robots as much as the next nerd but I can't get my Google Home to stop playing music I didn't ask it to play. The idea of physical AI is horrifying if that's the best we can do with a simple voice assistant. How come we don't have toy versions for rich people yet, either?

Nobody seems to take BRICS and the Yuan seriously. The Yuan does not need to replace the dollar. China just needs it to become indispensable enough that they can finance a larger portion of its own economic system in its own liabilities. They are buying our SPR, and we have alienated everyone.

The AI trade is backed up by earnings, right? Well consider that building a datacenter is the same trade, just closer to the source. The more people that pile in, the more datacenters are built and the more GE Vernovas post insane earnings. Yes there is ROIC -- for being in the middle of that trade.

People are asking a lot recently if AI is a commodity. The inference itself is the commodity. The chips and the models are not. But inference is the fully realized expense: chips, power, networking, cooling, etc.

I'm concerned @wikipedia.org blocking AI crawlers is actually leading people to places like Grokipedia since now AI chatbots are effectively giving Grokipedia free advertising, and Wikipedia's usage is still declining. It is a self-downgrade from being the undisputed center of human knowledge....

I think there is a paradox driving the over-investment in AI infrastructure. Humans are much better at handling unanticipated inputs, while LLMs are not. As a result it is much easier for AI to impress us because we don't notice all of the blanks we're filling in.

Tesla is no longer the 1st EV company. Its robots are under question, and it the only "Mag 7" company that I don't use regularly. I guess I see posts sometimes but I probably see more content from the Huffington Post than "X". Does it really belong in the Mag 7? Broadcom instead.
