I didn't see it being about student privacy but "disruption," which, I would argue, the media has not been (and it's also our job.............)

A note given to media at the Southwest High School transformation plan meeting last night.
The letter reads:

Welcome and thank you for coming out to our pathway community meeting focused on school transformation. Our primary focus of the night is creating a space for MPS community members to share their feedback and receive important information about the proposed transformation options.

We are unable to accommodate plugging in audio equipment to the MPS sound system due to the sensitivity of our audio systems at schools. We will be using microphones to project sound.

Please do not approach community members during the duration of the meeting and please do not conduct interviews in the auditorium or the hallway outside of the auditorium while the meeting is taking place is that may be distracting to community members

We are unable to accommodate interviews with speakers due to prioritizing engagement with MPS stakeholders

If you have any follow up questions, please reach out to MPSnews@mpls.k12.mn.us

In case you see this: Minnesota’s in-person absentee voting has started (on Sept. 18). It is the functional equivalent of in-person voting (which does indeed start Oct. 16; the only difference is you don’t have to fill out an absentee ballot application on-site).

MPD did not show up to today's Budget Committee meeting where the department's 2025 fiscal year budget was on the agenda. The item was moved from a committee meeting last week.

As the different options were presented last night, parents, school board members, and the press slowly got a picture of what schools were being suggested to close.

Melody Hoffmann @phmelody.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
UPDATE: while a lot of the schools suggested to close are underutilized, I talked to some parents at schools in South/Southwest with plans to close. They said their schools have had increased enrollment and measures of excellence that seem counterintuitive to a closure

Nice work, Minneapolis
A portion of a PR from WeWork email reads: "Hi Melody,

A new WeWork analysis of U.S. Census data* shows that Minneapolis posted one of the smallest gains in AI adoption among the nation's 25 largest metros between January and July 2026 — rising just 0.4 percentage points to reach 26.4%, still well above the national average of 21.7%.

The gap between expectation and reality is significant. In January, Minneapolis firms projected that 30.2% would be using AI by July. The actual figure came in at 26.4% — a miss of 3.8 percentage points, in line with the national trend of businesses overestimating their own AI uptake."

Re: today's federal charges against Christian Castro for perjury. This is @mynorthnews.bsky.social team coverage reporting from that night. I will never forget watching the video coming from inside the house. While my colleagues were on the ground, I was tracking everything accessible online.
Text from the article reads:

The man shot by an ICE agent, later identified as Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis, is a Venezuelan immigrant and allegedly had “a struggle with a federal agent,” according to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara.

A video from inside the man’s house, shared on social media, documents his wife’s call to 911 after he was shot. “ICE agents were following my husband, and they hit his vehicle,” she said through a 911 translator. “And we closed the door on him, and they shot him.”

Two men, Alfredo Aljorna and Sosa-Celis, were outside with ICE agents after being chased in a vehicle, and, according to reporting by MPR News, Aljorna was being beaten and choked by an ICE agent.

Early reports by the police chief that Sosa- Celis was
