Richard Walker @phlebas.bsky.social · 17hAnother change in behaviour that applies to any cut in IHT (and especially taking more estates out of IHT) is that there will be less gifting of assets prior to death. That will hurt the economy & reduce tax takes since the recipients are more likely to spend the gifts than the person making them. 1121

Richard Walker @phlebas.bsky.social · 06/10/2026WTF? If you had announced this prior to my subscription just renewing I would have cancelled it. That you could even consider Gove as a suitable host is a complete betrayal of everything your podcast is supposed to stand for. You won't get another penny from me. 011
Richard Walker @phlebas.bsky.social · 06/10/2026In these days of financial scrutiny, $200 a day plus expenses helps make the books balance. 010
Richard Walker @phlebas.bsky.social · 04/10/2026True, but that only worked because they knew who he was. Anyone else saying "I'm faithful" whilst laughing like that would have been banished. 020
Richard Walker @phlebas.bsky.social · 04/10/2026But it did enable Alan Carr to win last time, so swings and roundabouts I guess. 130
Richard Walker @phlebas.bsky.social · 04/10/2026"They would make a really good traitor so therefore they must be a traitor" is pretty much the dumbest reasoning ever. The US version (mostly other reality TV 'stars' who are viewed almost entirely based on what other show they had been on) is full of this. 110
Richard Walker @phlebas.bsky.social · 04/10/2026I thought the earlier picture of the massive lectern was just false perspective. But, no, she really does have a huge one. Richard Walker @phlebas.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Hard to code them left / right. Both are happy to be reliant on the state with someone else paying for their needs, but (some) cats are quite entrepreneurial and supplement their diet through their own efforts. Dogs want to live in a hierarchical society though whilst cats just want to be the boss. 010

Richard Walker @phlebas.bsky.social · 02/10/2026A Traitor's job is to get the other Traitors voted out without blowing your cover. The Faithfuls' job is to identify the Traitors whilst voting out other Faithfuls until near enough the end to get rid of the Traitors without them being replaced. Absolutely pointless to vote out Traitors early on. 000
Richard Walker @phlebas.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Given that AI relies on harvesting data for training and the companies don't much care how they acquire it, it does seem a tad optimistic to directly give them access to your financial data and not expect it to be exploited! 000

Richard Walker @phlebas.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Indeed. These are programs which are doing what they were programmed to do. Not understanding what you've programmed is no more a defence than telling the judge "I didn't mean to kill him but was off my head on booze and amphetamines" 111

Richard Walker @phlebas.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Don't forget simple survivorship bias. 99 out of a 100 who attempted what he did would likely have failed and never been heard of again. His being the exception is as relevant as the 100 year old who puts their longevity down to smoking 30 a day. 110

Richard Walker @phlebas.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Probably not remotely practical, but would be interesting to see how many beneficiaries are impacted by IHT. We are both very comfortable with the estate of the 2nd of us to die paying significant IHT (we'll be dead, so why care?) but we'll be leaving it to a dozen nephews & nieces who might. 270
Richard Walker @phlebas.bsky.social · 18/09/2026After our 2 cats both went missing for a week we got them trackers.
