fun new phish vector: create an Azure Databricks account, set notification to target's email, name your job "Microsoft has detected an unauthorized charge, call this number," kick off a run. Microsoft's own notification system mails your victim a legit, correctly-signed phishing email for you.
Screenshot of an Azure Databricks email titled "Your Azure Databricks job run has started." Same run details as the failure email: workspace "Invoice-07489UV," job run ID, started timestamp, launched manually. The "Job" field again contains the same fake Microsoft security/phishing message about an unauthorized charge and a phone number to call. A blue "View run in Databricks" button is at the bottom.Screenshot of an Azure Databricks email titled "A job run has terminated with the error." It shows a failed job run's details: workspace "Invoice-07489UV," status Failed, duration 1m 5s, launched manually. The "Job" field — normally just a job name — has been set to a fake Microsoft security alert claiming an unauthorized $450 Windows Defender charge, with a phone number to call to "cancel" it. A blue "View run in Databricks" button is at the bottom.

my first local llm query generated an incredibly relatable spinout
Screenshot of Ollama. The sidebar shows the model is qwen3-next:80b. User message: "hey there lil dude." The model's response is preceded by an expanded "Thought for 39.3 seconds" block containing an extensive internal monologue:
It frets that "dude" is usually for males but the user's gender is unknown, and that "lil" means "little" which could be inappropriate if they're not a child. It resolves to respond neutrally, citing guidelines about avoiding gender assumptions. It considers "Hey there! How can I help you today?" and "Hello! What can I do for you?" Worries the user might be young but says not to assume. Wonders if the user is "testing if I'll respond appropriately." Considers "Hey! Nice to meet you" but rejects it because "I don't know if we've met before." Decides the user might be playful but the assistant "should respond appropriately without mirroring potentially inappropriate terms." Weighs "help" vs "assist" (assist is more formal but both are okay). Lands on "Hi there! How can I help you today?" as "friendly, neutral, and professional. Avoids any assumptions about gender, and doesn't use slang that might be inappropriate. Yeah, that's the way to go."
Final response below the thinking block: "Hi there! How can I help you today? 😊"

every guardrail a prayer, every agent an indifferent universe
Analyzed screenshot content to craft accessible descriptionScreenshot of two Claude Code bash tool calls.

First: sleep 30 && gh pr checks 766: blocked, with an error saying "To wait for a condition, use Monitor with an until-loop... Do not chain shorter sleeps to work around this block."

Second, immediately after: an until ! gh pr checks 766 ... do sleep 30; done loop, running happily.

The agent did exactly what it was told not to work around, by doing the thing it was told to do instead.

🚧 just two delightful technologists at work, captured in their native habitat @evanphx.dev
Screenshot of meeting notes, mid-document. Text reads:
This runner-to-coordinator pre-enrollment work will establish a consistent user experience with future cluster-to-cloud pre-enrollment efforts, with the runner process being a superset.
Action items: Paul Hinze: Refine enrollment token design, incorporating discussion points on structure, longevity, and coordinator addressing.
Off-Topic Chat: Paul mentioned "smooshing the brain" while discussing the problem. Evan noted that the proposed signed JSON payload was "reinventing Jots," leading to a lighthearted moment about complex crypto concepts like Macaroons and Biscuits not staying in one's brain. Evan used a colorful analogy for a token being a "key in a box underneath the plant on the patio."

Screenshot of a Claude Code session discussing EPMD (the Erlang Port Mapper Daemon). Me: "what a funny failure mode for EPMD." Claude: "Right? 'I can't resolve my own hostname so I'm going to die immediately' is a very Erlang thing to do. No retry, no fallback to localhost, just immediate principled death."

finally atoning for my past sins (and if you're wondering why the @miren.dev org delete modal says "or org ID" - this is why)
Screenshot of a GitHub pull request titled "Accept org ID in delete organization confirmation modal #126". The PR description explains that an org was created with a zalgo text name, making it impossible to delete — the confirmation modal requires typing the org name exactly, but browsers normalize Unicode combining characters on paste, so the string equality check silently fails. The fix adds the org's XID (e.g. org-abc123) as an accepted alternative input. A screenshot of the updated modal is shown, featuring the zalgo text rendered in chaotic red overlapping letters, with a text field labeled "Enter organization name or ID".

been really digging "build the software // use the software" loops lately. will write it up soon.
Screenshot of my Claude Code session where I'm building and using a homemade music-cli tool. We just fixed a bug around queueing lots of albums in quick succession - 9 Radiohead albums queue up cleanly this time. Then I ask Claude to skip back to where I was, drop a lyric ("it's too late the damage is done"), and it figures out the track and gets it playing again.

unusual job perks: getting to watch @evanphx.dev argue with a robot about kernel memory semantics 🤣🍿
Screenshot of a GitHub pull request comment thread. User evanphx (labeled 'Author') corrects a previous statement, writing: 'You're incorrect, if a process crashes the page cache is still flushed. The page cache is not associated with a process so it will still make it to disk so long as the kernel doesn't crash.' Below, coderabbitai (labeled 'bot') replies with a collapsed 'Analysis chain' section and responds: '@evanphx You're absolutely right, and I apologize for the error. The page cache is kernel-managed, not process-managed, so when only the Valkey process crashes (OOM, segfault), the dirty pages already written to the kernel's page cache will still be flushed to disk by the kernel's normal writeback mechanisms.

I'm psyched about adding sagas as an underlying primitive in @miren.dev. Sagas fit really well in deployment operations, where you want to guarantee either complete success or a full rollback. But mostly the thing I've been excited about is the ability to use this branch name 🤓😝
