Climate change poses an existential threat to British farming. That is what I wrote in October 2025. Since then, we have had droughts, the hottest July on record and the spread of bluetongue virus to new parts of the UK. We cannot bury our heads in the sand - we need urgent action.

There are several hundred waiting to be confirmed ( most will be positive) with flock mortality >10 %. The weather predictions at present have the whole of the uk at high risk. If you haven’t vaccinated yet do it now before it hits your area!

Unfortunately the 26/27 season has got iff to flying start and the news from South West England is shocking and sickening. By the start of August in 24 and 25 there were no cases in the UK, in 2026 we have over 80 already confirmed with more serious levels of mortality in sheep. Vaccinate ASAP

Bluetongue increasing rapidly in this year's season compared with 2025, the first picture is 11/8/25, the second is today's. Vaccination is the only tool in the box.

BLUETONGUE- THE EFFECTS OF THE 25/26 SEASON IS DRAWING TO AN END AND WE CAN SEE WHERE IT GOT TO LAST YEAR. THOSE AREAS MAY STILL HAVE SOME OVERWINTERED VIRUS AND THERE COULD BE FRESH INCURSIONS FROM ACROSS THE CHANNEL. IT'S HOT AND THE MIDGES ARE ACTIVE, SAYS HE SCRATCHING. VACCINATE ASAP

Bluetongue again. Many Welsh farmers will be thinking of sending sheep to overwinter either south or east. We've been lucky enough to avoid bluetongue so far, but those areas haven't. Vaccination beforehand will protect your ewes and rams and the crop of lambs that should be due in 2026 1/2

Text of poem -

SKELETON.
Smiling? An euphemism for showing the teeth?
This one - three thousand years dead - harmless? There is a secret he teases us with, something he keeps to himself: the knowledge that man is a revolving glass; that he in his day focused the light as clearly as we in ours; that for a moment the darkness was less dark, the interval was tenanted
by flowers and music, the dust, too, had a serene halo.
From beyond
his horizons the presence he was somehow a part of drew near with its implicit insistence that the light is perennial, that the flesh is a lens
continually re-ground; that somewhere within the personal crystal are memories of its anterior shinings, a prophecy
of others endlessly to come.
