I was honored last night to receive the Legislator of the Year award from the United Tenants of Albany. My belief in public housing and the rights of tenants goes back to when my grandparents lived in the first Mitchell-Lama housing.

As I observe Yom Kippur, I want to wish a meaningful holiday to all those observing in our community. May this sacred day be a time for reflection, forgiveness, and renewal, and may the year ahead bring peace and good health. G’mar Chatima Tova and an easy fast.

Check out my latest Times Union op-ed, where I examine where Democrats and Democratic Socialists align, where they differ and how the Democratic Party’s departure from the economic principles of Franklin D. Roosevelt helped create an opening for the DSA. www.timesunion.com/opinion/arti...

Just how different are the Democrats and the Democratic Socialists?
The DSA stepped into a void left by Democrats’ abandonment of the policies of Franklin Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson.

Protecting our communities means confronting new threats before they put NYers at risk. Two new laws now in effect crack down on ghost guns, convertible pistols and 3-D printed firearms, while another strengthens safeguards against unlawful drone use and credible drone threats.
