Marquette is in the Hit or Miss category, based on Evan Miya’s efficiency predictor. Sounds about right. Lots of potential. Lots for this program to prove. #mubb

Miletic? That’s a shot in the dark. I am prepared to eat crow on that. I have no sense about how he’s performing after his redshirt year. This is Caedin’s fourth season on MU. Maybe he graduates and moves on?

Nyok needs a year to develop his body, so he’s not stealing a ton of minutes in Year 1. Potential X-factor: Fru. Shaka thinks Fru can be eligible for 27-28 - but that’s not certain. Never say never, but I’d lean toward Caedin and Josh staying. Would be eager to hear other takes.

He looks to be more a fully capable version. Not just a shooter, but also a driver and distributor. Looks really good against mid-majors. A backup PG role in the BE might be a perfect fit. Nice pickup by Shaka.

Harper commits two OBVIOUS fouls in that sequence. The refs reluctantly call the second. The NBA is sending a message.

The Spurs have gotten so many breaks from the officials throughout the Finals. One more time: Wemby does not give Brunson space to land on a three-pointer. Brunson twists an ankle on Wemby’s foot. No call. Brown should have gotten a T there.

The Spurs are only in this game because they are getting the ultimate home whistle. Or the refs are swallowing the whistle when the Spurs play defense.

If you think MU’s offense can generate 8-10 layup and dunk chances a game for Fru, then factor in his shooting percentage, he’s scoring 12 to 16 ppg. The team will need to shoot 34-35% from three (see it to believe it). If so, that level of Fru production is probable.

Take Ben out of it. 5 in 5 is a potential path to get high-end, hired-gun free-agent talent. There are lots of experienced players who just ran out of eligibility and aren’t getting drafted.

If the NCAA implements the 5 in 5 rule in the spring, all bets are off. It’s a big if, but many big schools have already blown through their budgets. MU should have reserves to grab a player (beyond Ben).

An old boss said: Never counter a person who has an offer to leave. For him, it was a question of loyalty. I get it, but I’ve also matched 30% salary increases to keep good talent. And they‘ve stayed. Every situation is unique. You might have an agreement in hand — and the market shifts anyway.

Be prepared for Caedin to play 8-10 minutes a game. Someone will have to spell Fru. The team will also experiment with small-ball lineups, but I expect Caedin and Josh to split spot minutes. Caedin is a good defender. There’s a defined role for him. Emphasis on defined.

Phill McGowan @phillpmcg.bsky.social · 22/04/2026
Yeah, that’s the reality. The starting role would have been his next season (and beyond). But if he’s got the chance to be starter now, I get it. Best of luck to him.

If he got a bag, I don’t blame him. I have to believe that MU could match whatever he’s getting — if the program wants to.

Phill McGowan @phillpmcg.bsky.social · 22/04/2026
I have to believe that MU has enough money to counter. But perhaps the amount is more than the program is willing to swallow. I thought Sheek would play a different role than Minessale. Regardless, this is a big loss. Potentially of Sam Hauser proportions. We’ll see.
