YouTube alternates between retirement homes and TAB no matter how many times I block the TAB.

Not a hope in hell unless you spend an insane amount of money which would be much better spent electrifying the truck logistics would wean us off a significant amount of our essential diesel requirements.

It’s probably too late and expensive to put pantographs down SH1 but truck battery swap stations at suitable points maybe cheaper and quicker. I think they are trialling this in Aus.

I’ve been visiting a few factories lately and was surprised how much of the work is just grinding. Grinding is one of those things you don’t really think about but a lot of your modern world relies on grinding stuff.

Many young people are losing equity in their houses so all their spare cash is going straight into their mortgage as their house depreciates. The worst thing you can do is cut spending or taxes as their houses depreciates. The money just goes straight into the mortgage.

The old parties were a fairly broad church but they are increasingly fractionated into the true believers at either end of the spectrum and the swing voters in the middle. You’ll end up with a swing voter party in the middle that doesn’t really believe in anything but will act as king makers.

youtube.com/watch?v=y7Lx... about 60k $NZ you could buy it and fly there for a couple of weeks every year for the rest of your life and still be cheaper than buying a Bach in NZ. The stairs will probably get you in the end. That’s what de-population does. I’d love kayak that coast.

Two insects on my flowers. Very different work rates. The bee was so busy it was hard to capture whereas the fly was very casual. I wonder if it’s the general case that eusocial organisms work harder and lose their reproductive autonomy.

We eat a lot of bananas, in the last year I’ve noticed that Dole in NZ bananas taste musty. Maybe I’m particularly sensitive to must tastes but Dole bananas smell really bad. Sometimes other brands but always Dole. Next time yr in a supermarket try smelling the bananas.

Either you’ve got a new and exciting mutant or they’re not two spotted mites. ;-)

100

phillipsmithnz.bsky.social @phillipsmithnz.bsky.social · 22/08/2026

There is something that eats them, I can’t remember what but I think it might be another mite. From memory there was a program to grow the predator commercially at some time. Should be some documentation somewhere.

That’s the issue they will grow really quickly. I was a bit surprised that your getting diapause this time of year in Japan I would have thought it’s still way to warm. It seems a bit weird.

110

phillipsmithnz.bsky.social @phillipsmithnz.bsky.social · 22/08/2026

If you want to spray them you’ll have to do it while they’re still green. Once they go orange nothing will work they’re half dead already ;-)

100

phillipsmithnz.bsky.social @phillipsmithnz.bsky.social · 22/08/2026

See if you can something like this. Cut it into short length and seal up the ends to keep light out. Leave these upside down around the base of your plants as you go into autumn. The mites should hide under them and you can dispose of them during winter.

100

phillipsmithnz.bsky.social @phillipsmithnz.bsky.social · 22/08/2026

I used to collect these using traps, you could possibly do the same and dispose of them that way.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetrany... assuming these are the same thing. I had a job trying to kill them many many years ago. When the are orange they are either entering or leaving diapause and their metabolism almost stopped. From memory they are extremely hard to kill at this stage. Even with low O2

Let me suggest something you might call a reverse lobby. The government rewards CEOs for acting against shareholders interests, just like lobbyists reward politicians for acting against the public’s interests.
