I really don't understand the secret calculator thing. Actual model arithmetic stuff aside, chat harnesses today are full of tool calls. They don't hide them, in fact they run them through another little model to make you nice little summaries of what they're for!

Not necessarily saying you’re wrong here but 1) nobody knew how strong Wilson would be until ballots were counted, if he’d had less first round votes, marginal gains might have made the difference, 2) the Mapps -> trash line in the chart was the target.

PSA: If a bunch of apps on your phone didn't work this evening, it's because Firebase shipped a server side bug that crashed their SDK.

I've seen folks defending the concept of "vibe coding" as valid in the industry and I don't get why. Vibe coding is the AI equivalent of a hobbyist writing just code. The quality of the work is variable. Professional software engineers should not (and usually do not) proceed that way.

Achilles for Idaho | U.S. Senate 2026

@Achilles4Idaho
84 year old wealthy former Idaho governor endorses 83 year old wealthy former Idaho governor. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I like Butch and how he led, but his op-ed represents everything that’s broken in American politics.

No Idahoan wants to send an arrogant, chickenhawk, 83 y/o back to the US Senate for a 4th term. They want an independent who will work with both parties to get America back on track and restore the Idaho way.

All else aside, here's the highest charge Chauvin was convicted of: "unintentional second-degree murder," which explicitly does not require intent.
Subd. 2.Unintentional murders. Whoever does either of the following is guilty of unintentional murder in the second degree and may be sentenced to imprisonment for not more than 40 years:
(1) causes the death of a human being, without intent to effect the death of any person, while committing or attempting to commit a felony offense other than criminal sexual conduct in the first or second degree with force or violence or a drive-by shooting; or
(2) causes the death of a human being without intent to effect the death of any person, while intentionally inflicting or attempting to inflict bodily harm upon the victim, when the perpetrator is restrained under an order for protection and the victim is a person designated to receive protection under the order. As used in this clause, "order for protection" includes an order for protection issued under chapter 518B; a harassment restraining order issued under section 609.748; a court order setting conditions of pretrial release or conditions of a criminal sentence or juvenile court disposition; a restraining order issued in a marriage dissolution action; and any order issued by a court of another state or of the United States that is similar to any of these orders.

Seems smart. Commoditize your complements + similar properties to payment routing infra. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/19/b...
OpenRouter is exceptionally useful for any developer and Stripe is one of the world's largest developer platforms. As such, we think that there will be many benefits and efficiencies in
bringing these two core needs together.
We think that there are deeper reasons to pursue integration besides convenience, however. Our experience in working with our customers has led us to realize that intelligence is special: it is expensive, heterogeneous, and constantly changing. As with financial capital, businesses must reason about cost and return of every unit in a deliberate and granular way. How valuable is this task? With which models can it be best handled? Who will pay, and when, and what is the
time-value of that delay? We have seen the parallels between managing intelligence and managing capital directly in our own products. Radar, for example, was initially designed to prevent financial fraud, but is proving extremely effective at guarding against token fraud at many of the world's largest Al companies. Metronome (used by Anthropic, Nvidia, and other industry leaders) is showing that
metered billing in an Al context is inseparable from token serving and consumption itself.

So that it can be mocked. E.g. you have a class that creates a CLLocationManager. A “seam” would be taking it as an init arg, as a LocationManagerProtocol or something. Pretty standard testability stuff!

Phil Kast @philkast.com · 15/08/2026
IME in Swift when Claude says it needs a seam, that’s almost always shorthand for passing in a dependency and abstracting it through a protocol. #latereply
