Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 14/04/2026So much simpler to get into than photoshop, I loved it for how simple yet powerful it was. 170
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 13/12/2025Not sure but when I helped build the new CRM platform at TripAdvisor I know the email template team worked DAMN hard to get ALL calls to action in that top 120KB 060
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 05/11/2025Now how, this could very well be where Ryanair flies to when they say “Brussels” is the destination. 010
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 23/10/2025That’s fair, I’m definitely of the opinion that if something is worth the money, I’m willing to pay. The electro verse app is also decent. 110
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 20/10/2025Laughs in pager system running in us-east-1 But for real, no longer having to be on call is so damn peaceful. 010
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 16/10/2025Ah, this should be simpl…. Oh no … daylight savings time … ah, losing records because fsync takes too long to write … ah … dealing with running out of disk space ………. Oh no …… 110
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 06/09/2025If you wanted to institute a movement to deliberately damage the UK I couldn’t think of a better one. 030
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 06/09/2025Correct - we’re no longer part of a supra national trading and political block and are therefore far more exposed, unlike last time. This is about survival. 250
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 06/09/2025Or rather he knows Mandelson is a snake, but he’s the right person for the job. We seem be doing pretty well compared to other nations under the second administration. 210
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 31/08/2025Especially as the last death from smallpox was a medical photographer in a lab that still had samples being infected. 100
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 26/08/2025The mass media WANT a reform government. The capital owners have decided they want even more of the pie, and to operate with close to zero regulations and pesky things like “health and safety” or “human rights”. The media is complicit. 031
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 14/08/2025Same - regularly get their electric bill, medical appointment (and even test trusts!) emails and more. 000
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 14/08/2025Yeah - very well reviewed is the EV6, comfortable, roomy, good handling, super fast charging. The E-GMP platform is fantastic (shared with Hyundai), good range etc etc. Sorry it doesn’t pass your snob test. 110
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 12/08/2025Small technical correction, if stored on traditional hard drives (spinning rust) they will be consuming energy and requiring cooling (which uses water) as data center drives typically don’t get spun down. Apart from that, yes, it wouldn’t really make a dent. 020
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 05/08/2025I bet they were excited and thought they’d have a fun day at mums work! 100
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 03/08/2025It’s a well known phenomena sadly - we’re so ridiculously busy and running on auto pilot most of the time. Heck - I was half way to work on the train once when I suddenly couldn’t remember if I dropped my child off at daycare. Doesn’t excuse it, but the human brain is pretty fallible. 6290
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 28/07/2025“I could take him blindfolded” “And what if he’s not wearing a blindfold?” Just exquisite punnery! 110
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 27/07/2025The documentary is called “Right Here, Right Now” m.imdb.com/title/tt2645... It’s £1.99 on Apple TV and Prime.m.imdb.comRight Here, Right Now (2023) ⭐ 7.2 | Documentary1h 29m 110
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 13/07/2025No way, Jose! Also love it because it forms a key part of my homeland security with tang and Clevis providing network bound disk encryption of various ZFS pools. 000
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 01/07/2025Movie you've watched more than six times with a gif. Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 16/06/2025It creeps up on you out of the blue sometimes, doesn’t it? Coming up to 2 years for me. The best metaphor I found was the grief box and ball hospiscare.co.uk/how-we-help/... Hope you’re able to focus on happy memories to remember him, despite the grief.hospiscare.co.ukWhy grief is like a ball in a boxThe local hospice for the heart of Devon 010
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 19/05/2025Finally got around to prettying up the homelab rack. Also great having a child with a 3D printer to replace a missing UPS bezel! 010
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 18/05/2025I remember using “trackers” back in the day, there’s some modern versions floating around like OpenMPT en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenMPTen.m.wikipedia.orgOpenMPT - Wikipedia 010
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 12/05/2025carsick.app if you ever find you need it! Perfect for travelers in cars, buses, and trains. 010
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 12/05/2025One thing that stopped me for the longest time was the train to London tilts around fast corners which gave me motion sickness. Thankfully someone came up with a MacOS app that pairs to your phone’s gyro to display motion cues which has solved it for me! A privacy screen is a must though. 110
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 12/05/2025Only time I use my laptop as a laptop is when working on the train on the way in and out of work, or taking notes in a meeting. Rest of the time it’s plugged into a Thunderbolt dock and driving 2 monitors and with a physical keyboard and mouse. 130
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 09/05/2025They’re annoyed we’ve not weakened our food standards so our farmers can’t sell to the EU cutting trade with them even more. Brexit uber alles, even if it decimates the fishers, and farmers, and anyone else. 130
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 04/05/2025Also a reason not to use smart sockets/plugs with inductive loads - inrush current kills them fast. 010
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 04/05/2025Attached a kill-a-watt (or similar) to things to check the power draw? I’ve “only” got a 3080 TI but that thing can spike pretty high. 110
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 26/04/2025Can’t go wrong with a Bambu P1S, my 18 year old son has one and the prints are great. A little bit of kerfuffle lately with their security enhancements, but for the happy path it just works. Add in the AMS and you can do some really fun multi colour prints. 020
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 25/04/2025When they got rid of Quip at Meta a load of us were annoyed as hell because it’s just better for writing IMHO. Glad my new employer uses it. 110
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 24/04/2025It doesn’t fit the talking points of the gas and oil industries … one could draw the conclusion from there. 000
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 23/04/2025You forget that Republicans follow Supply Side Jesus’s teachings and not actual Jesus. 020
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 23/04/2025The same way that EVs have been made political. Monied interests, from the oil and gas industries, sowing discord to prevent their cash cow being threatened. 030
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 22/04/2025Yeah, and in the 18th century we were all in on Miasma theory. Times change, and we learn more. 010
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 20/04/2025They saw what the tariffs did to soybean farmers last time and voted for more of the same. At some point people need to learn, maybe second times the charm. 050
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 14/04/2025Maybe they’ll have to agree to export limitations to “unfriendly nations”. 010
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 14/04/2025I hope you sue ... since their defamation laws are descended from those in the UK they're a lot stronger than in the US. IANAL though. 020
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 13/04/2025Also Taft and the “right to work” bill which neutered unions. 010
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 13/04/2025With the opioid epidemic I wouldn’t be surprised if pharmaceuticals are the third leading cause of death. But of course, he just takes that number and tries to claim all medications are bad. 110
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 10/04/2025Ah yes - you’re 100% right, I missed the “mr president” line at the start and assumed it was an older conversation. Thanks for the correction! 120
Phil John @philjohn.bsky.social · 09/04/2025That’s exactly how it works. And the poorer you are, the more of your income you have to spend on “stuff”. So it’s explicitly a tax on the poor. 140
