It's almost like a shorthand, one movement which just evokes so many memories, so many feelings within it. It wasn't dictating how you could feel, but it was allowing you to find how you could feel. Dance and drumming come from a very similar place - they both have that life force to them.

I remember the first time I went to see a dance piece. I must have been around 30 or so. I remember sitting there thinking, I don't understand the vocabulary here, but it's actually speaking to me loud and clear.
