IMO FH has been the same game for a while now, nothing new. Crew 2 I had a blast with, not least because the cars felt *different* which very few of the FH models achieve. FH6 looks...like something to pick up when heavily discounted; nothing I've seen makes me feel like hurrying to get it.

Genuinely love how the backstory for every new image feels like I missed a whole 22 episode season of their lives - absolutely here for it

if hard sf, making the science genuinely part of the story and not technobabble (I have little scientific background) if creating alien species, it's making them *genuinely* alien and not just from another place; also *how* to communicate with no shared frame of reference so many compromises

Please - not *this* scene - I truly don't need reminding - it already lives rent free in...my id!

They showed all these serials (and Buck Rogers) on tv when I was a kid and I adored them. Kind of obvious where Max von Sydow got his Ming from (I prefer Charles Middleton's but still love Max's)

First watched it when I was a little too young, and 40yrs later still get nightmares about the monsters from the Id - one of the best scifi movies ever, IMO, up there with Tarkovsky's Solaris, Carpenter's The Thing, and the iconic Hodges' Flash Gordon.

This is the kind of Pokémon I can fully support collecting (respectfully, of course) maybe in a nice villa, perhaps?

Please can we have this as a shortcut on the Mac version? IIRC even Window$ get that...

With Maul and Palpatine and even Ventress, how can the audience ever feel confident that there is closure to a story, that the stakes really matter? I get they are a small % of the characters in Star Wars but they are also a high % of villain characters. Feels very Marvel-y where death is temporary.

The predictably excellent @brennanleemulligan.bsky.social is on here right now, and he’s matching donations for Minnesota. I’m in for $100–if you’ve got anything to spare, join in!

Kare 11 local news just read, in full, this statement from Michael and Susan Pretti, the parents of Alex Pretti. "Please get the truth out about our son."

Statement from Michael and Susan Pretti
Parents of Alex Jeffrey Pretti

“We are heartbroken but also very angry.

Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital. Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately, he will not be with us to see his impact.

I do not throw around the ‘hero’ term lightly. However, his last thought and act was to protect a woman. The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trump’s murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He had his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down, all while being pepper sprayed.

Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man. Thank you.

This is the feature I bought Scrivener for and from which I cannot go back to writing in a word processor - AND you can change where in the page you scroll!

Doesn't have any AI in it, isn't a subscription, and is a great way to not need M$Word if you're a writer. Am I a shill? No. Did I buy a MacBook just to run the Mac version because it's even better than the Window$ version? Yes. 10/10

Split screening on an ultrawide monitor is gamechanging. Throw in something in the 'quick editor' as well, and it's so easy to keep track of more than one thing at a time. Or you've no excuse not to.

Philip Pinea @philippinea.bsky.social · 13/06/2025

Useful but I like to break my writing into less intimidating sections - being confronted with 250k words in one large document can be a bit scary

010

Philip Pinea @philippinea.bsky.social · 07/06/2025

As someone who doesn't know their lore, I find the relationship between Asimov and Ottillie fascinating as it's clear there is a depth and complexity even when I don't know what it is

Looking good - hope the map is large enough that the biomes blend organically and it doesn't feel like you're tripping from one to the next in only a few dozens of metres - wishlisted with anticipation

Philip Pinea @philippinea.bsky.social · 01/05/2025

Yes and no. Walking my dogs is a great way to get my head out of the screen, but not being able to take notes leads me to repeating key words aloud as we hurry back home, ignoring the odd and curious looked of others.

Philip Pinea @philippinea.bsky.social · 04/02/2025

As someone who writes fiction as a hobby, I always run with split screens, the text in the main section and some kind of reference material (maps, images, whatever) in the other. Additionally, one of the joys of an ultra-wide monitor is that I can open a third 'quick reference' panel too.

Philip Pinea @philippinea.bsky.social · 17/01/2025

I literally bought a MacBook to be able to use the Mac version after using the Windows version for years. Honestly can't imagine writing anything without it.

010

Philip Pinea @philippinea.bsky.social · 08/12/2024

I'm hoping it was a poorly executed trailer but I came away with no idea what the story was, who the 'big bad' was, or anything of substance, only a collection of character being 'bad' moments. Fingers crossed but my expectations are not high, sadly.

Remember long ago reading one of the Pocket TOS novels (which I loved, they were my continuing adventures) and in one of them they had a new Chief of Security, replacing Lt. DeSalle and commenting what a mess he had made of things. Poor guy.
