The footpath through Mesopotamia has been closed until further notice due to damage. Oxford University, on whose land it sits, has asked people to find alternative routes until damage can be assessed and repaired.

Having apparently lived under a rock for the last few weeks (and so were the last people to realise there would be a partial eclipse today) we had no special glasses. But this workaround with a colander worked actually quite well!

Lots of interesting points in this thread and the replies. It's a genuinely remarkable change that you can have a Catholic prime minister, a Jewish foreign secretary, a gay defence secretary & a British-Asian home secretary, and those are among the least controversial facts about those appointments

ICYMI, yesterday's mega-thread on the makeup of the Cabinet reshuffle, and how it applies to Oxfordshire, with a current Cabinet Oxbridge tally: Oxford 10.5, Cambridge 5, (if you count the PM), others 11.5
In reflection, it was a foolish endeavour to live bleat the entire cabinet. But here is one of Roger Close's glorious photos, reflections of the Sheldonian, with which, it seems, many of our new cabinet will be familiar.

The biggest media failure on the bombing of Iran is that every article should have started with: "The Iran nuclear deal signed in 2015 effectively curtailed Iran's nuclear program until the US withdrew in 2018, under pressure from Israel". Without this context, any commentary is worthless.

Because they're crap at comms. They spend all their time chasing votes in areas they don't believe in, and don't try to act as they (not Sir K of course - cf. "Get In" etc) believe. What's the point of power if you dare not use it? Can anybody imagine the Tories/Reform "chasing the Labour vote"?
