Philip Cooke @philipcooke.bsky.social · 17/09/2026I’m not sure it’s too anthropocentric to say that at least all *mammals* are capable of thinking. But yes, arguments can be made that plants have consciousness and some degree of cognition. But that, too, is quite speculative at this point, and doesn’t lend credence to LLMs being able to think. 000
Philip Cooke @philipcooke.bsky.social · 17/09/2026*Some might say subjectivity and consciousness are the same thing. I think they’re related, but not really the same (i.e., one can be conscious without having subjective experience) 021
Philip Cooke @philipcooke.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Burden of proof should be high when the thinking (and mental life more broadly) of another subject is impossible to directly observe. If we deviate drastically from what has defined subjectivity by including LLMs, more evidence is needed beyond “can solve very complex problems.” 110
Philip Cooke @philipcooke.bsky.social · 17/09/2026It seems to me that thinking isn’t innately human (all mammals likely do some form of unconscious thinking). But thinking does seem to require being an experiencing subject*, which as far as we know, also requires having a body with a nervous system. 210

Philip Cooke @philipcooke.bsky.social · 10/06/2026Excited for you! Also a bit besides the point, but there will be more than one cohort?! Should I be impressed with this institutes enrollment or what?? 110
Philip Cooke @philipcooke.bsky.social · 09/06/2026I *think* I know who you’re referencing, but not sure… Also slightly ashamed that this is the sort of thing that will get me to go take a peek at the old place 😅 230
Philip Cooke @philipcooke.bsky.social · 04/06/2026This segment wouldn't have aired if Bari Weiss and CBS management didn't want it to. They want to be seen as the generous, civil actors here. Clearly, as this post shows, this segment portrays CBS News as gracious and civil while covering up the egregious actions of Weiss and her team. 110
Philip Cooke @philipcooke.bsky.social · 04/06/2026I did watch it. Choosing to part ways is a whitewashing of what actually happened. He was fired for asking questions to management they didn’t like. Parting ways implies a civil, amicable separation. This was not that. 110
Philip Cooke @philipcooke.bsky.social · 04/06/2026No credit due here. He'd deserve credit if there was any mention of Pelley being fired and why it happened. This is meant to make it appear to the average CBS viewer that Pelley retired and, if anything problematic happened, it was his incivility, not CBS/Weiss. 222
Philip Cooke @philipcooke.bsky.social · 01/06/2026Pretty embarrassing for all the blue states that Florida (!) is the first state to file a lawsuit like this. 032

Philip Cooke @philipcooke.bsky.social · 15/05/2026Yeah, wouldn’t go well. So do you think his implicit argument is that survivors are only to be revered for their resilience and anything that conflicts with this idealized resilient survivor myth are to be ignored?? 110
Philip Cooke @philipcooke.bsky.social · 15/05/2026lol I’m imagining that dude reading this (or most analytic papers TBH) and losing his fucking mind. 230
Philip Cooke @philipcooke.bsky.social · 12/05/2026It’s heartbreaking to read these horrific accounts of systematic torture. And it’s even more painful knowing there are people I could send this to - people whom I respect, who are otherwise empathic and compassionate - who would likely respond by saying something akin to: “But Hamas…”nytimes.comOpinion | The Silence That Meets the Rape of Palestinians 040
Philip Cooke @philipcooke.bsky.social · 11/05/2026A majority of the people in this country want universal health care. Myself included. But that must mean an end to health insurance. No more half measures. Have the government pay for health care and raise taxes to pay for it. No “insurance” necessary. 140
Philip Cooke @philipcooke.bsky.social · 11/05/2026Maybe I’m over reading this, but it seems telling that he says we cannot go back to the prior status quo AND says Democrats need to deliver “universal health insurance coverage.” Why not say universal health care or even universal health coverage unless you’re open to ACA-like insurance subsidies? 130
Philip Cooke @philipcooke.bsky.social · 07/05/2026Omg. I can’t. I just can’t. It’s well known as “the talking cure”. What do they think people talk about?!? 🤬 130
Philip Cooke @philipcooke.bsky.social · 07/05/2026Omg thats perfect. I wish I had someone wish me “Condulations” when a patient recently fired me, would have fit the experience perfectly 😂 120
Philip Cooke @philipcooke.bsky.social · 06/05/2026Yes, speak in plain language as much as possible, sure. But the “jargon” of means-tested v. universal program does indeed matter when it comes to solving the problem of “the rent is too high.” It’s disingenuous to paper over real differences between liberals and leftists by lamenting jargon. 020

Philip Cooke @philipcooke.bsky.social · 20/04/2026Yeah this is it. I wanted to say Sunday in the Park, but that’s more a personal favorite. Sweeney’s construction is virtually flawless as a stage musical, hence the greatest. 010
Philip Cooke @philipcooke.bsky.social · 13/04/2026For me, embodiment involves a mutual, multidirectional engagement between mind and body. Not sure if that’s similar to how you see it, but curious to hear. 120
Philip Cooke @philipcooke.bsky.social · 13/04/2026I tend to think that in order to really be/act “different,” we have to be able to truly think (i.e., use reflective function), which can only be done when not in a bodily state of panic/overwhelm. Regulating bodily tension leads to accessing bodily affects in service of new thinking/doing. 120
Philip Cooke @philipcooke.bsky.social · 11/04/2026The evidence is unambiguous with multiple independent women describing the same patterns of behavior with corroborating documents. Philip Cooke @philipcooke.bsky.social · 10/04/2026Ugh, I'm very sorry to report that I keep thinking about this mnemonic device for remembering the meaning of concave and then associating to a similar mnemonic device for anaclitic based on the description of it as a "girl depression"... 😳😅 120

Philip Cooke @philipcooke.bsky.social · 10/04/2026My primary litmus test for 2026 and 2028 is an unwavering commitment to tossing Schumer, Jeffries, and those aligned with their corrupt, incompetent politics out of leadership. 130
Philip Cooke @philipcooke.bsky.social · 09/04/2026Ahh thank you for this! If only all my analytic confusions could be so clearly addressed in 3 tweets! 130
