Can't watch it after seeing the 1st two episodes of series 1. No chemistry between the two, AE mocking the idea of bird watching. A very poor attempt to produce a C5 version of Gone Fishing, but without any of the magic or charm.

A #Dormouse actually doing what I have read they do, actually eating honeysuckle flowers. Magical. #dormice #mammals

And it's seedheads grow away from the light and 'explode' to throw the seeds into cracks in the wall! Marvellous

Beautiful. Not seen one for years. Sadly, they last bred in Devon in 1979.

I just put it your photo through Obsidentify and that says 100% Eastern alchymist. I will watch answers with interest

Are you thinking Eastern Alchymist? What others are you thinking of?

No, not poisonous, but I suppose intending to break up the outline and appear threatening. They are beautiful

Thank you. I suppose this summer has created all the necessary conditions for a second generation. Wish I had a better picture 🙂

Went to try and see Purple Emperor, came away with Dark Crimson Underwing, Dusky Sallow & a Sulphur Pearl. All new for me...no Emperor mind, but no need to mention that. #moth #mothsmatter #teammoth #mothsofinstagram #lepidoptera

I had one land on my head in the middle of the night a few years ago, waking me up. If you want a definition of panic looks like, that was it🙂

Philip Chambers @philipchambers1.bsky.social · 26/06/2025
You can sometimes see the highways agency pulling ragwort along road verges. They must be under pressure to be seen to be doing so. I think over 60 species of invert rely on ragwort so its removal unnecessarily has a big negative impact

Philip Chambers @philipchambers1.bsky.social · 26/06/2025
It is challenging. Condition assessments give an indicator of percentage cover/occurrence beyond a point this is deemed to be a problem and could impact payments of environmental schemes. Allowing the plant to seed is what determines whether the landowner has allowed it to spread.

Philip Chambers @philipchambers1.bsky.social · 26/06/2025
Yes, me too, and as @amiesphilip.bsky.social says it isn't an issue apart from in hay. Ragwort, sadly, is easily identified and has a bad name, making probably well-meaning visitors react to its presence beyond any genuine need for concern
110
Philip Chambers @philipchambers1.bsky.social · 26/06/2025
Ragwort is a fantastic plant for invertebrates, but it is a notifiable plant (I don't like the word weed) and is covered by specific legislation whereby the land owner is obligated to prevent it spreading to neighbouring land. It features as a negative indicator species on NE condition assessments

More from the @greenwingstours.bsky.social tour to the Italian Alps where, today, we had an extreme form of female Spotted Fritillary that had a steely-blue sheen to its wings; a hybrid between Adonis and Chalk Hill Blues, known as polonus; and a cleodoxa form of High Brown Fritillary. What a place!

Yes, that's my understanding too and is exactly where I have found my only WA caterpillars and chrysalis. The @ukbutterflies.bsky.social video on how to find their caterpillars is excellent

Philip Chambers @philipchambers1.bsky.social · 17/06/2025
In Devon, they have declined dramatically in Yarner Wood NNR, coinciding with (because of?) opening up of the understory to benefit lichens. They used to be regular in our garden too, but the clearance of the understory in woods behind us means I have not seen one here for several years
