I got into “the Dunedin Sound” via The Chills, if you don’t know them you should definitely check them out. Few years back I had a flatmate from NZ, “from a tiny town you won’t have heard of: Dunedin.” I said “oh, where all the bands are from.” They had no idea what I was talking about.

Opening five minutes of below is amazing, like something from a much better show. Fun to watch the subtitles too, likes bad AI buts it be just how d’ey talks.

I always pop into Forbidden Planet whenever I’m in that area, even if I can’t afford to buy anything, it’s just habit. Think I’ve still got one of these bags (somewhere), always wondered if your dad (and the other pictured celebs) minded the use of their images, I doubt permission was asked.

Turning out to be a big year for me and cinema going: third visit to the flicks of 2026 today! I must be quite the movie buff! Anyways, saw Resident Evil, excellent fun!

Watching a movie in 4D!!! Well, technically it’s only a 3D movie but as it’s set in the desert this weather has got to be worth at least one extra D.

This is one of my favourite sci-fi corridors, from Moon (2009). It was a tiny set, everything after the first section was built in forced perspective, it was only a couple of metres deep, I found it completely mesmerising in real life, and spent hours just staring down it, enjoying the magic.

Second cinema trip of 2026, at the great PCC (again) last night to see the highly enjoyable and playfully cheap BULK with nice Q&A with Ben Wheatley and Andy Starke.

First cinema trip of the year (used to go 2 or 3 times a day, still, mustn’t dwell…). Really enjoyed the movie, like a Bava Bond movie, great to have a chat and some beers with the directors after as well as Peter Strickland and Andy Starke. Great cinema too.

First gig of the year, 2026 off to a slow start, Kim Gordon at Shepherd’s Bush Empire was really good, quite noisy and I didn’t know any of the songs.

Today in Surprise Finds on Free Streaming Services: The Fall - Perverted by Language // bis on Tubi. While I love a good remaster/restoration, this untampered gem feels exactly the same as watching the IKON (Factory records) VHS back in those 80’s.

Both I Start Counting and The Offence have leads living in flats in the 17 storey Point Royal. I first saw ISC tripping in a flat in that building, the opening shot is literally the view from the living room we were in. We all thought our brains had broken. A lot of “Is anyone else seeing this?”

Me and a mate made the Making Of, the perfect excuse to hang out on a moonbase several times a week for a couple of months. A real privilege to see a movie like that get made.

They showed those films every week on Super-8 at our local skate park clubhouse in 77/78, it was tremendously exciting.

Gary Numan was amazing at Hammersmith Odeon, better than expected, no big hits, focus on Telekon era, sounded timeless and futuristic. Great lighting design too, no screens, HO is the spiritual home of the rock lighting rig. Down In The Park might just be one of the all timer classic songs.

You're traveling through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind; a journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. That's the signpost up ahead, it says…

Went to see The Young Gods for the umpteenth time, first saw them around ‘87ish. With samples/drums/singer lineup they basically invented a new way to be a band. Still great, never let me down. Set mostly fab new LP, also managed bangers like Skinflowers, Gasoline Man and L’amourir. Top night.

Reading people, local boy Peter Strickland’s excellent dress based horror film In Fabric (2019) is on iPlayer. All character/place names are locally sourced, the spooky department store setting is based on Jacksons - check out the pneumatics. I love this movie so much that I actually appear in it!

Great evening bouncing on the sprung floor of Islington Assembly Rooms to the greatest “hits” of Krautrock courtesy of Michael Rother plus added tape drones of Marta Salogni as support.

I didn’t buy these, they are a remnant from my days working in a record shop that, somehow, have beaten the odds and remained in my collection.
