🎵 Paula Cole @ Edmonds Center for the Arts (Edmonds, WA) October 10, 2026 Wonderful show. Great to see her back out there, in smaller venues. I hadn’t even known this theater 12min away from home existed. paulacole.com/#tour

I’ve been growing grumpy that this Finder “Sort” button doesn’t seem to work in Column view, but now I learn that the behavior changed to “group by”? WTF.
A screenshot of the Finder toolbar. The tooltip for the (or what I thought was the) Sort button reads “Change the item grouping (hold down Option to change the sort)”

What happened to the “app only” text size widget option on my iPhone, and why are there so many options on my iPad? These are both running 27.0.

Full weekend of concerts, Sugar was first up on Saturday. The Paramount stage kind of engulfed them, but the smaller clubs certainly no longer can accommodate all the fans like me who wanted to see them.
A wide shot of Sugar on the Paramount stage. A lot of open space with David Barbe (bass) at the microphone on the left, Bob Mould (guitar) at microphone on the right, and Malcolm Travis (drums) on a short riser in the back. “How to Kiss: Moist Kiss” youtu.be/rKC32NuzoB0?t=108
A landscape-oriented colored pencil drawing from the “Moist Kiss” segment of Bill Plympton’s “How to Kiss.” A man and woman are kissing in the background but are blurry because the scene has been flooded by their overactive saliva. Found some of my wife’s art that seemed worthy of framing. The orchid is dated 2003 when she was trying to get back into watercolor as a hobby; the color studies must have been from high school.
An 8-inch by 11-inch watercolor painting of a red/yellow/orange orchid with a violet stamen. The ragged-edged paper is floating over an orange background matte, with a violet frame to match the stamen. Five small (about 5 inches by 7 inches) color studies. Each is the same set of stacked wavy lines, reminiscent of water currents, done in a different color palette.

Stop placing text over images and pretending it’s a usable design, you bastards.

So, I… bought a few prints, (small) originals, and books from the HelioscopePDX sale. It’s all @stevelieber’s fault. 🤭 (And I’d do it again!)
An array of prints and originals: On the left, an 11”x17” “Kick-Butt Girl!” print by Natalie Nourigat.
Top row: Four “cursing dinosaurs” prints (T. Rex saying “shit”, triceratops saying “poopsock”, stegosaurus saying “fuck”, and allosaurus saying “dammit”) by Ron Chan.
Middle row: “Chicken [pigeon, really] in Crocs” painted sketchcard by Dylan Meconis, “Howl [from “Howl’s Moving Castle”]” sketchcard by Cat Farris, sketchcard by Aud Koch, “Cuddle Fish” print by Erika Moen.
Bottom row: “Hot Tub Gorilla” and “Carrie Stetko [from “Whiteout”]” prints by Steve Lieber.
To the right are also two bonus items: “Incredible Doom” mini-comic #4 by Matthew Bogart, and a small sticker from (I believe) “Sleepless” by Leila del Duca.Hardcover copy of “Femme Magnifique: 50 Magnificent Women Who Changed The World”, and paperback volumes 1–3 of “The Fix” by Nick Spencer/Steve Lieber/Ryan Hill/Nic J Shaw.

Worst. Drop cap. Ever.
A paragraph that begins, “In the span of a few seconds.” The initial “I” is presented as a drop cap extending the first four lines of text, but without serif or much spacing so it just looks like a vertical bar next to the text.

Full paragraph text reads, “In the span of a few seconds, your body reaches peak tension relief. Your brain starts firing in all corners. A surge of feel-good hormones, like oxytocin and dopamine, floods your bloodstream. Headaches and pains might vanish, your immune system may get a boost and you could experience better sleep. No, this isn't a luxury wellness treatment; it's what happens to your body when you orgasm.”

Is *your* app usable with Dynamic Type?
A section of a problematic app. At the top is an icon of a moon next to the text “Good evening, Paul” on multiple lines. Below that is “Time Filter” next to a clock icon, below which is a row of five buttons with only ellipses visible, except the first which has a less-than sign before its ellipsis. Not helpful.

For when you want to sprinkle your cinnamon sticks evenly, I guess.
A jar of Spice Islands cinnamon sticks, which came with a lid with large (but not large enough) holes for… shaking the sticks out?

Mail call delivered some happy international mail today: @MarkAllardWill’s “Photo-Illustration” and @chrisbaldie ‘s “Space Captain: Captain of Space” (original issue for size comparison)
Cover of “Photo-Illustration”: An unfocused background of a pile of cameras, with a foreground photo of a camera set to focus on a cup of pens and brushes. The pens and brushes are drawn to reflect the book’s contents of illustrations of photos. Collected edition of “Space Captain: Captain of Space” primarily showing the main character, a serious-looking large-mustachioed man in a white space uniform and other smaller characters in the foreground. Next to it is a copy of the original issue 1 (of 6), about 20% smaller, showing just the captain in profile, his hood pulled up.

🤔
Search results for “autocorr” is the iPad Settings app: “Auto-Correction” with a hyphen after “auto”, and “autocorrected word color” without a hyphen.

Our first power outage since installing our #EcoFlow system (after going 40hrs without power thanks to last year’s “bomb cyclone”) and it worked like a champ: 105 minutes without blinking. Hell yes.
Notification at 2:05am from “Smart Home Panel” saying “Your home is currently powered by batteries due to a power outage.”

Never change, autocarrot, never change. 🤡
iOS contextual menu for proposed replacements for “couldn’t” mistyped as “cound’t”. The suggestions are “count” and the nonsense words “count’t” and “found’t”.

I don’t really need the bandwidth at the moment, but 2Gb service is $15 less/mo than the $90 I was paying for 1Gb (only $5 more after initial year) so I couldn’t resist. Had to buy an SPF+ module for the UDM-Pro but it switched over pretty seamlessly.
A speed test result for my Ziply Fiber connection: 2ms latency, 2,139Mbps download, and 2,129Mbps upload.

I really need to start framing and hanging some of my art. Just received this commission from Nate Powell and it’s too beautiful to store in a folio. #comics #originalArt
11x14 original of the Iron Giant walking through (and towering above) a orange-and-yellow autumn forest, arms spread wide with an expression of wondrous joy.

Orange Goats Flying Press is definitely orange. 😁
Selfie of me, a bearded and bespectacled blonde doofus, wearing a bright orange t-shirt with a silhouette of a long-horned winged goat and the motto “Comics Against All Odds”

Portland, Chicago, and other cities could take cues from the Cheeto Administration and stop reporting crime numbers. There, no crime!

We have a number of places planned for spreading my wife’s ashes. This weekend was a fairly quick trip to the Oregon coast (arrived late Friday, left early Sunday) and she is now part of the surf she loved listening to. ❤️
A setting moon over the ocean. The iPhone really exposes the shot to look closer to daylight than the darkness it really was just before 5am.
