We like to do things differently at Venice Noir. Yes, there are plenty of sessions discussing crime and thriller fiction with some top authors. But we also want to delve beneath the surface and investigate some of the things that set the world of dark fiction ticking in the first place. I’m lucky enough to be chairing (in a very light, hands-off way) two fascinating events in this area of the festival, so I thought I’d take time to tell you a little about them.

The rooftop scenes are pure “Caligari”. Carlson is the perfect heroine, Francis makes it all look beautiful and so, despite the weaknesses of the script, it’s a thumbs-up from me.

Oh, they've excelled themselves this time - "Breakheart Pass" (the title chosen in homage to the MacClean novel) is the title of a *blog posting* by me. Not an actual novel.... I think it's a good blog posting, don't get me wrong...but it's not a novel. AI is actually pretty stupid...

1970's "The Horror of Frankenstein" doesn't get much love, but is it as bad as its rep? Cev disputes the body count, Smokey goes on an acid trip and we say a fond farewell to Kate o'Mara and Veronica Carlson. All this and more, from @househammerpod.bsky.social

On the back of the news about Eve Marie Saint, I have discovered that both Kim Novak and Tippi Hedren are still with us. Being a Hitchcock blonde appears to be good for longevity, at least!
