Wilson gloved punch to Huston's face. No call, of course.

If he just covered the angle properly it wouldn't have gone in, also. He's not small.

Anderson caused the net to be knocked off so it's fine that it counts, but the penalty being served is nuts
000
Patrick @pgagnon17.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
Because that would require competence

Patrick @pgagnon17.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
How the heck can there be a penalty AFTER the goal is scored that would have ended had it been delayed?
000
Patrick @pgagnon17.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
But apparently the resulting punch and forearm to the face were even more marginal

Why the bleep does Dobson go if the refs know his stick is held???

Patrick @pgagnon17.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
This might be worse than any game the Habs played all of last season

Renovating the interior was a forgone conclusion after blowing the first $900M they shouldn't have. It probably moves the math from absurd to...ridiculous.

Also the standards do have to change when there are over 700 NHL roster spots vs 350 back in the day

Patrick @pgagnon17.bsky.social · 23/06/2026
I know why you're not a Price fan and don't disagree, but hockey-wise, his hardware was hurt by the team. It's also not the NHL hall of fame. His international play shows what he can do with an actual quality team in front of him. Both things can be true (Hall of fame player, questionable decisions)

Second yellow for unsportsmanlike maybe?

That call ended the series for the Habs, and it was clearly wrong. (Not saying they'd have won otherwise, but still)
010
Patrick @pgagnon17.bsky.social · 30/05/2026
It's a bottomless pit of stats - in the end, which team *really* should have won but didn't? Gambler's fallacy says at the base the sequence of winners we've had is equally as likely as any other sequence of events.

Patrick @pgagnon17.bsky.social · 30/05/2026
Hahaha quite the statement :)

Wouldn't take it from them and clearly it's just my opinion. Maybe I'm becoming an old fart...

Also why does European add value to a cheer...
100
Patrick @pgagnon17.bsky.social · 30/05/2026
I'm not sure about that - the Habs are one of the greatest sports franchises in history and don't need to appropriate someone else's cheer. Go Habs Go should be enough!

If you reduce the question to game 7 losses it's already a coin flip. Not sure a common factor tying them together. Not trying to defend the league, I believe the eye test of skewed calls. They could greatly benefit from making those a lot more consistent like other leagues.
000
Patrick @pgagnon17.bsky.social · 30/05/2026
Dobson being injured put a lot more pressure on Matheson. He's for sure better at 24 minutes and less.
000
Patrick @pgagnon17.bsky.social · 30/05/2026
I'd say Vegas is a league job, and Florida/Tampa have a huge advantage but have also been well managed. Edmonton is the team that maybe should have won, but we all know their defense and goaltending have been crap. So who really got jobbed?

I saw it, they just don't register as having any personality...😂
000
Patrick @pgagnon17.bsky.social · 30/05/2026
It's a small sample size in the end. I agree the eye test in watching Montreal games at least that the game management overwhelmingly seems to skew against them. Andrew Berkshire quantified it. I just don't think it's a tax or Canada thing. It's a "we can't make more money from Montreal" thing.
000
Patrick @pgagnon17.bsky.social · 30/05/2026
Not to beat a dead horse - we can't look at winners/losers and playoffs to justify if Canadian teams have a disadvantage. They factually do from a tax perspective, and that's just math. The league could fix it, I just don't think they have incentive too since there's no money in it for them.
000
Patrick @pgagnon17.bsky.social · 30/05/2026
Vancouver made it twice and Calgary once too, so that's 7. It's not that bad.
100
Patrick @pgagnon17.bsky.social · 30/05/2026
The easy math is around 1 Canadian teams every 5 years, or 6-7 in 33 years. I don't think we're off of that with Montreal once, Edmonton twice, Vancouver once right off the top of my head at least
200
Patrick @pgagnon17.bsky.social · 30/05/2026
But then you'd have to do the American teams too. So Montreal had a terrible team under Gauthier for example, but Phoenix sucked too...etc
110
Patrick @pgagnon17.bsky.social · 30/05/2026
The all other things being equal is because we're just looking at excluding the Canadian teams. In the end, they aren't equal. You'd have to go year by year and reduce the number of Canadian teams that "could" win by the ones that had other bad factors to adjust.
000
Patrick @pgagnon17.bsky.social · 30/05/2026
It's the 77% chance of someone else winning compounded 33 times. The odds stink, and the cap isn't adjusted for taxes, but some franchises have been very poorly managed too. The border has no bearing on management.

Patrick @pgagnon17.bsky.social · 30/05/2026
Actually no it's 2.9% of 1%

.029 of 1% :)

Patrick @pgagnon17.bsky.social · 30/05/2026
Gallagher couldn't keep up in the regular season and Xhekaj is more or less interchangeable with Struble. It's not a pit stop where you can switch the other 16 skaters.
000
Patrick @pgagnon17.bsky.social · 30/05/2026
Oh it's not hard. It's a .029% chance, all other things being equal

Patrick @pgagnon17.bsky.social · 30/05/2026
They're trying to get people to watch the finals.

Patrick @pgagnon17.bsky.social · 30/05/2026
The most energetic and exhausting team in the league gets 11 days off to face a team that goes through 14 games against the 3rd and 4th best teams in the league. I wouldn't look too far to explain the disparity. And the Habs are short 2 top 6 forwards and a top 6 righty dman.
061
Patrick @pgagnon17.bsky.social · 30/05/2026
If they had energy we wouldn't be where we are, that's the problem. They're gassed vs a team that spent two weeks at the spa.

Patrick @pgagnon17.bsky.social · 30/05/2026
It's ripped off of European soccer as far as I can see. Go Habs Go is the way to go!

Patrick @pgagnon17.bsky.social · 30/05/2026
Killer instinct would have earned them more points in the regular season and shorter round 1-2 series

It's funny and that cheer never should have existed anyways

I never liked that cheer and hope it dies

Come on Brendan, do you think Gallagher or Xhekaj were going to save the team?
