I found this paragraph extremely confusing. It seems to change its mind halfway through, from "it was readily obvious this was a school, and the US should have known that/was criminally negligent in not knowing" to "the US did know this was a civilian target."

This passage didn’t connect for me, it opposes a reason connected to the goals of the action with an excuse for not acting. I can certainly sympathize with not acting perfectly in the heat of the moment, but in this cynical analysis that sympathy shouldn’t prevent recognizing a screwup.

Crabs get a lot of PR, but the porcupine is underrated as the Purest Form towards which all animals are evolving, and the examples here don’t even include Will Stancil.

I don't have any huge investment in this/am not a Byzantinist, but "isn't remotely true" seems more intense than warranted. If we know Priscus primarily through him being quoted by later authors, then we're pretty close to the source study people do for the historical Jesus.

I think the underrated background here is that apparently fast food restaurants hate hot dogs. There's a restaurant called Pal's in NE Tennessee that had them and their main impact is making everyone realize they're not everywhere else.
A Pal's restaurant, with statues of a hotdog, hamburger, fries, and a soda on top of the restaurant.

There's a point here about social epistemology. While it's bad to believe things for bad reasons and good to believe things for good reasons, at any given conversational encounter the range of beliefs that can actually be changed is narrow. WK Clifford didn't have to actually change minds.

So I'm an utter rando drifting by with morning coffee, but I just did the homework of reading 121-130, and I think Mises comes off just fine? Like this is a very surprising passage to read if we're supposed to think this section of the book proves he a European supremacist.

Well, there are these rules that guys have, an understanding as to what exactly constitutes [war]. Take your situation for example: it's not [war]. It's never [war] when you're in a different area code, not to mention a different state. Kyle: That makes no sense E.L.: Hey, I didn't make up the rules

It's a tossup whether Ezra Klein or Will Stancil drives this website more insane, but anyway this quote is taken out of context and misrepresents Klein's point. Klein is saying something Bluesky profoundly agrees with: the Democratic Party is obsessed with following rules over getting stuff done.

this is the funniest one—paraphrasable as, "we spent so little time thinking that we're characterizing something a pope didn't do as entangling himself in politics." Like, Pope Julius II led armies in the field and Alexander VI was *the* Borgia, but sure, let's pretend this is a c20 thing

I think the full quote is pretty reasonable. She's tacking on the workplace stuff, not centering it as the core of her argument. And also she's right? Students are going to end up in diverse workplaces, learning how to exist in one is a valuable skill in addition to being an intrinsic good.

The most Wisconsin Man who has ever lived:
While I'm not necessarily a bucket list kind of guy I do keep a "Fish Finder" of places that I know I want to get to someday and its nice to check one of them off from time to time. The Wayside definitely lived up to its billing as one of the best and we'll likely take the trip down that way way again some sunny day. Overall, we highly recommend this Fish Fry and can die a little happier knowing that we've been there and done that.

You're spreading misinformation. The man was not fired. Don't put the inflammatory version in the first post and then qualify it in the second. www.ibtimes.co.uk/teacher-resi...
For Heidorn, technically, his two-word post was protected political speech. But in practice, if that speech can endanger students, districts can legally discipline or dismiss teachers without violating constitutional rights. But it's worth noting that he was not dismissed. He took the liberty to resign after pressure from students, their parents, the school, and the entire West Chicago community.

I very much might still be wrong here, but I think a House committee could still have gotten the documents. The 5th doesn't extend to documentary evidence in a Congressional inquiry, apparently, and the relevant subpoena would presumably have been to the Epstein estate, not DoJ.
