being able to enjoy the sex while being in an abusive relationship is the whole point of this defence mechanism. This is how many SA survivors were able to cope with the abuse. And before someone says anything about their personal experience: your personal experience is valid.

Btw characters in fiction are PERFECT subjects for psychotherapeutic observation. Astarion’s narrative amounts to tens of hours of a clinical interviews. This is the whole point of the science of literary analysis!

I’m a psychotherapist with ten years of clinical experience. People don’t get that hypersexuality is one of the defence mechanisms (and a very common consequence of SA, for that matter). And THIS is precisely what defence mechanisms are for—to keep certain things from reaching your consciousness.
