Odd thing is, he's afraid of the midterms as a democratic institution with power to stop him. But if he were to pull any of these stunts, he'd have to fully believe there is no longer any institution with power to stop him.

Agree that the press are craven opportunists. When “Trump crashes” posts start getting more clicks than “Trump says war ending tomorrow” posts, then press will pivot. But only when it pays for them.

One can see, very soon, an internet which works at “the speed of bots” which humans can no longer participate in.

This. The use case is always proposed as a solution to a problem THAT SHOULD NOT EXIST. We can pass laws that make all this the default. But we don’t. We propose to pay SV for a bot that might sort this out correctly, to our actual benefit, maybe 49% of the time.

I think Trump would want to do this as a show of power, rather than have D's force it on him, which would show weakness.

This is such a telling detail. Sure, we know about the yachts and mansions. But imagine living in such a bubble you have never had to give another person your phone number. At a party, a kids soccer game, a school function...

We used to watch a lot of classic movies when my son was young. He was in the room but not paying much attention. He equated old things with “black & white.” One day he asked “when did the world become color?”

This is an excellent, and under-appreciated, shift in the Overton window. No more asking for permission or complaining about red tape when D’s want to do GOOD shit. Just do it.

The article fails to mention the entire reason for the existence of all these systems in the first place - reducing staff and boosting profits. It was never about customers’ experience.

Very likely humans will be involved in some way. Maybe accidental bio weapon release. Or an AI does something unintentional - like shut down every electric grid and muni water system on earth - that leads most humans to kill each other over resources.

"No Meat In Space." It's basically the only viable approach to do much of anything beyond what we've already done. Reduces cost and complexity by 10x or more. Allows for failures. Etc.

AI doesn’t even need to be “intelligent” to do substantial harm, it just needs to be stupid in all the wrong ways, and run by people who are also.
