It’s similar to consequences, you start with a random picture, pass it to the next player. They write a caption for the picture, fold the paper over to hide the picture and pass to the next player who draws a picture for the caption. And repeat until the paper is full.

I don’t mind if a definition relies, in part, on the context provided by the surface (which I wouldn’t call an &lit). But that’s not what’s happening with this clue, as the last word doesn’t define the solution. I won’t edit it here (spoilers), but there’s a probably an elegant way to do that.

You’re not necessarily wrong - but as a double-barrel myself, I think it’s far less reliable as an indicator of class than it used to be! In our case, and several other couples I know, it’s an expression of equality in marriage.

I’m going to say none of those. For me, they all suggest wordplay on one side or t’other. I prefer DD without link words, but would use “and”, “or” for a pleasing surface. Suspect this fussiness is why I find them hard to write.

p.s. My favourite feature is when I check XML outputs of new grid fills, my DB shows me clues I've written for any of the words before AND inserts them into a text based output I copy and paste into my Notes programme - ready to write the clues.

Science does love an acronym. Although weirdly, they don't always stick to the first letters these days – it really can be any pattern, as long as it's in the word somewhere. The more important the word is to the project, the more likely it will be the first letter.
