Did anyone understand Marina Hyde’s opinion piece in @theguardian.com this weekend? It was either being vitriolic about the Sussexes or about the media obsession with the latter in which case she is a contributor. Left me confused.

I don’t resent successful people enjoying their earnings, however I just wish they could do so in a socially responsible way. What sort of message does flying in private jets from all corners of the world say about people who demand action from governments on climate change?

It’s not just SUVs that are worsening potholes. A condition of the EU was allowing far larger lorries on our streets to harmonise logistics. And we now have to endure outsized agricultural machinery as favoured by Clarkson. All have an impact and should pay through vehicle tax accordingly

The question I posed 4 days ago about the climate costs of the world conflicts was partially answered in The Guardian this w/e and poses a different question: what’s the point in individual climate actions if we are led by a bunch of f*ckwits?

I can’t imagine many people feeling sorry for the plight of these tax exiles, who’d do anything but contribute their fair share to the upkeep of the country that enabled them to prosper The Guardian 14/3/2026

Excellent piece in The Guardian today about how Europe needs to unite and stand on its own against tyranny starting with Ukraine. Here is a snippet of suggested action points

Extraordinary piece in The Guardian today implying that being a private landlord is wrong. I don’t have a private pension so like many others my property portfolio is my pension. I keep my properties in good nick and provide homes for people who can’t afford or don’t want to buy. Is that bad?

Stephen Bleach’s excellent comment piece in The Sunday Times decrying the barmy world we live in where we are told that to fund the NHS economics tells us we have to buy stuff we don’t need. Growth is not a useful tool for economic policy we need an alternative.

Saw this brilliant opening night of Quadrophenia where the set was a key performer alongside the excellent dancing. You don’t have to be a Who fan to enjoy this fabulous show. Well done to all at TRP for bringing this to Plymouth @trplymouth.bsky.social

Our tax system has got totally out of hand and is open to abuse by the wealthiest providing a charter for tax accountants and lawyers to get rich. Our tax code runs to over 22,000 pages compared to 350 in Hong Kong. The case for simplification is long overdue Courtesy of Sam Freedman, FT

The gift that keeps on giving: Brexit, they said it would improve our balance of trade
“HM Revenue and Customs data shows that there has been a decline in imports from the EU, adding to the evidence that new trade barriers related to Brexit are a likely explanation” The Guardian

The only people in the room who disrespected the Oval Office were Trump and Vance. The whole nation should be hanging their heads in shame at the way their leaders tried to humiliate another head of state. Respect to Zelensky for keeping his head whilst those around him lost theirs

Tonight’s the night for the great planetary alignment. This is the view of Jupiter from Victoria Park, London. Not spectacular but pretty special
