He could have closed the place if he'd behaved himself. I'd seen people make little sandwiches with dinner rolls to take home and nobody yelled. Helping himself to that enormous slab of meat was beyond the limit. The entire episode was handled quickly, on the QT, very few other diners noticed.

No. He picked it up with his bare hands like a sandwich and was gnawing on it when the manager arrived - almost instantly, practically rose from the floor like genies. One of the kitchen guys relieved him of the meat while the other two expertly ushered him out the door. Maximum discretion.

I witnessed a person get ejected from Royal Fork after they grabbed the last 1.5 inch of a roast beef. When the carver went into the kitchen for a new roast the dude forked the slab onto his tray and scuttled back to his booth. Manager + 2 beefy guys from the kitchen escorted him out the door.
