Screenshot of excerpt from Trump fundraising message reads: After everything we've been through, can you STILL say it without flinching: "I WILL NEVER STOP LOVING PRESIDENT TRUMP"? Trump's self-enrichment schemes never quit. He's using the presidency and White House to hawk "Trump Diet Soda" while raising money for his Never Surrender PAC.
Image from a Trump email shows Trump seated outdoors in the White House rose garden reading his phone while drinking a Trump diet soda. Email subject line reads: "FROM TRUMP: I just cracked open a Trump Diet Soda in the Rose Garden." Text under the photo reads: "I'm sitting in the Rose Garden right now sipping a Trump Diet Soda. Gorgeous day. Beautiful garden. Greatest soda ever made, and I'm not just saying that, believe me. It's true!

Bracing takedown of SCOTUS MAGA majority by a Hawaii Sup Ct Justice. And there's much more at the linked article: slate.com/news-and-pol...
Text reads: "The court calls the Constitution colorblind while engineering the dilution of Black votes, the unraveling of hard-fought civil rights remedies, and the erasure of Black history. That is not blindness. That is white sight, by design. A Constitution interpreted this way is not colorblind. It is whatever the court needs it to be. A way to advance its partisan project."

Trump looking for fine specimens to join him in the audience at his UFC fight made me think of this image being shared on social media. I do not know who to credit as its creator but it made me laugh at our current absurdities.
Social media meme, white text on black background, reads, "Trump making half naked sweaty men fight on his front lawn is a great way to celebrate Pride Month. Hats off to him." The text is followed by a rainbow flag emoji.

More glorification of Trump, this one courtesy of Pentecostal-oriented media outlet Charisma:
Illustration shows a heroic-looking Trump on the left, gazing thoughtfully forward, an American flag waving behind him. The right side shows rays of light emanating from a cross floating above the U.S. Capitol. In the foreground on the right are two lit candlesticks and a loaf of challah bread draped with a cloth embroidered in gold with a star of David and the word "Shabbat"

"Overwhelmingly" seems a bit of a stretch for a guy who got less than 50 percent of the popular vote
Image of a March 17 2026 tweet by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. Text reads: "Donald Trump was overwhelmingly elected by the American people to be our President and Commander in Chief. As our Commander in Chief, he is responsible for determining what is and is not an imminent threat, and whether or not to take action he deems necessary to protect the safety and security of our troops, the American people and our country.

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence is responsible for helping coordinate and integrate all intelligence to provide the President and Commander in Chief with the best information available to inform his decisions.

After carefully reviewing all the information before him, President Trump concluded that the terrorist Islamist regime in Iran posed an imminent threat and he took action based on that conclusion."

"Judges’ citation: In the Shadow of the Cage will be a vital and stylish work of reportage and memoir about mixed martial arts (MMA) and the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), especially in the age of Trump, whose alliance with UFC has helped mainstream, in Zidan’s words, a ”brand of aggressive nationalism and anti-establishment rhetoric that has since bled into broader American politics.” Zidan’s work is an indispensable guide to a sport and culture not well known outside its fanbase, but which has, as his journalism has shown, links to neo-Nazis, Gulf autocrats, gendered propaganda, and much more. With deep sourcing and narrative command, Zidan’s story traces UFC from its outlaw origins—once denounced as “human cockfighting” by Senator John McCain—to its emergence as a cultural arm of the MAGA movement, with its politics of dominance, spectacle, and grievance. He has a gift for illustrating these sweeping themes with intimate human stories, from a former UFC champion turned QAnon-peddling city councilman to the fighters who cheered Trump even while their own labor rights were gutted. Zidan, an award-winning, Cairo-born journalist, has reported on this beat for over a decade, despite bans, death threats, and the hostility of powerful institutions—demonstrating the same defiant persistence as the fighters he covers. The Lukas Prize will help him complete his ambitious reporting, which spans Russia, the Middle East, and the United States, all the way to the White House."

Excited to see this recognition for @karimzidan.com and his forthcoming book. Congratulations, Karim! nieman.harvard.edu/danah-boyd-k...
Image shows text: "In the Shadow of the Cage tells the story of how political operators have captured mixed martial arts and turned it into a tool to radicalize young people toward a mindset that centers individualism and survival of the fittest while shirking empathy. Zidan began reporting on this phenomenon in Eastern Europe and continues exploring the underbelly of MMA in the Middle East and the United States, documenting its evolution into the ground zero of a new wave of right-wing, hypermasculine counterculture."

"When human beings are dying under federal supervision, oversight is not optional. It is our responsibility.” - Sen. Dick Durbin
“Earlier this year, Geraldo Lunas Campos died at the Camp East Montana facility in Texas. Witnesses report he was choked to death by guards. An autopsy by the county medical examiner determined his death was a homicide… Another man recently died at the same facility. Instead of transferring him to the local medical examiner, DHS moved his body to a nearby army base—which is now refusing to release the results of his autopsy.”

It was a tactical acquisition of digital infrastructure. Trump’s DHS is treating the Bill of Rights like a market inefficiency—a cost of doing business that can be mitigated through the right corporate partnership. In this case, it’s working hand in glove with the social media platform favored by America’s most politically active demographic cohort."

Sadly, this prediction I made on Facebook one year ago today holds up all too well:
Image shows a Facebook post from Jan 20, 2025 in which I wrote: "Well, it has begun. I am not optimistic. I think the level of cruelty, criminality, and corruption will be worse than most people imagine. They will first target the most vulnerable among us, including immigrants and transgender people. The days and years ahead will provide all of us with tests of our character, our resolve, our resilience. May we measure up more often than not. May we forgive ourselves and each other when we fall short. May we find strength in solidarity."

The Washington Free Beacon demonstrates the moral squalor of the MAGA media
This year, an anonymous hero emerged as an embodiment of American greatness: The Double Tapper.

Our Man of the Year sprang to action in September as a drug-carrying speedboat raced toward the United States from Venezuela. An unnamed operator, acting under orders from Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, struck the target once—and then struck it again. No moral dithering. No international hand-wringing. No waiting to see if the enemy might deserve another chance. Just decisive action.

The Double Tapper ensured the narco-terrorists never made it ashore and reminded us that it isn’t a war crime to go back for seconds before dessert.

We say: “Our man made sure the job was done the American way, the victorious way. That’s what makes him, The Double Tapper, a Washington Free Beacon Man of the Year.”

Major Cassandra kudos to @addiestan.bsky.social who wrote this in back in 2015 for @prospect.org
image shows text excerpts from an article in The American Prospect:

If you find comfort in the notion of a Republican Party in disarray, you may wish to consider this: In chaotic times, chaos often wins. Chaos creates the power vacuum that sucks the unthinkable to the fore. It worked for ISIS, and right now it’s working for Donald Trump…

In times of chaos, people crave order. When traditional means of creating order appear to have failed, the simplistic solutions offered by demagogues sound good to too many ears. This is the way in which dictatorships can emerge from democracies…

Trump has a knack for making ideas that challenge the limits of the U.S. Constitution sound appealing to Americans…

I worry if the Constitution will survive in a chaos-theory world. Or a chaos-candidate nation.

It's been 20 years since John Roberts became Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. As @svantemyrick.bsky.social notes, it's not a happy anniversary. @peoplefor.bsky.social thehill.com/opinion/judi...

"The U.S. Supreme Court begins its new term just days after the 20th anniversary of John Roberts being sworn in as chief justice. It is not a happy anniversary.

"There is little doubt that the court’s right-wing majority will use the coming term to further dismantle constitutional checks and balances and grant more power to the increasingly dictatorial President Trump. The only real question is how aggressively the Roberts-Trump Court will pursue its drive to reverse more than a century of constitutional precedent and social progress."

More from the dissent: www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...
"When the Executive publicly announces its intent to
break the law, and then executes on that promise, it is the
Judiciary’s duty to check that lawlessness, not expedite it.
Two lower courts rose to the occasion, preliminarily enjoining the mass firings while the litigation remains ongoing.
Rather than maintain the status quo, however, this Court
now intervenes, lifting the injunction and permitting the
Government to proceed with dismantling the Department.
That decision is indefensible. It hands the Executive the
power to repeal statutes by firing all those necessary to
carry them out. The majority is either willfully blind to the
implications of its ruling or naive, but either way the threat
to our Constitution’s separation of powers is grave. Unable
to join in this misuse of our emergency docket, I respectfully
dissent."

Image is a text excerpt from Sen Padilla speech: "And my message to the country today is this: What's happening in California is not just a threat to California. It's not just a threat to immigrant communities. It's a threat to everybody because an attack on anyone's rights is an attack on everyone's rights. And no matter where you live or what your background, don't think that anybody is insulated from Trump's actions. If Donald Trump can bypass the Governor of California to activate the National Guard and suppress immigrant rights, he'll do whatever he wants to suppress other rights, too. And if he can deploy Marines to Los Angeles, he can deploy them to any city in America. And if you can bypass due process, declare lawful residents, criminals, subject to deportation, and disappear them to foreign countries without even giving them an opportunity to make their case, what's to stop him from doing the same to any of us?"
