I’m 46. Nearly 47. I was the first in my family to support #wafc. In 92-93 season, we played Ipswich in the league cup. I went to my first match. We drew. My dad took me. Then on Saturday we played WBA at home. Dad came too. I think we won. I never missed a match. We got relegated that season.

I don’t want to be downbeat after a win, but it’s not a great sign that after four league games #wafc now have three players out with hamstring injuries that will take ‘months’ to heal. Hypothetically, clubs can reduce the risk of players gaining soft tissue injuries. Not great

I’m definitely not condoning #wafc’s abject failure yesterday but: 1. Humps is ‘only’ a 10 goal a season forward. He doesn’t lead the line. On the other app there are reports he would have cost £350k. In our situation we can’t pay that for him. It’s what we got for Lang, almost half what we (cont)

I think this summer saw Danson’s equivalent of Au Yeung putting the club into administration or Al Jasmi not paying the players. The good news is his loss of any interest didn’t give #wafc the nuclear shock of the other two. I still think he’ll keep the lights on. But we’ve been cut right back.

I just don’t think this #wafc has enough in it. I’m pleased we upgraded the goalkeeper today. But I just fear we won’t run survival even close. It’s done now, I guess. Not the fault of the team. We just have to get behind them. But it’s undeniably disappointing, and troubling for the ongoing future

We need a couple of old warhorses. Paul Cook talked about Hunt, Roberts and Dave Perkins as ‘exceptional pros’ who wouldn’t let team mates daily standards drop. I know little about Hogan but on those grounds understand his appeal. It’s just none of the forwards would be goalscorers. #wafc

I remember the Swain days very well. Keith Gillespie cheered me up on a couple of months loan, and there was a great home game vs Chester. But it wasnt fun. Pat Gavin, Neil Morton and Phil Daley just couldn’t score. The goalie, Farnworth, he was decent though. Do we have an Andy Lyons? #wafc

Loads of positives. You wouldn’t need a data analyst to point out why #wafc didn’t win. All directions point to the need for a striker who can stick away three quarters of the ‘3/4’ chances. Good money raised. Little reinvested. Maybe we can’t, maybe we just don’t generate enough. But that’s it.
