Pete Jackson @petejackson.bsky.social · 04/02/2026Really enjoy this approach to teaching Germany Q6 and Q7 for OCR B by studying a range of sources, getting students to think and then using them as hinge questions to check whole class understanding of which is the best answer and also identifying potential misconceptions. #historyteacher 130
Pete Jackson @petejackson.bsky.social · 02/02/2026Every year, students say they can't read my writing on feedback. This year I've used a mail merge to import the data direct from excel - it means they are clear on the feedback and I retain the feedback for my own reference. Game changer #historyteacher Well done Chris P. Bacon! #notarealstudent 390
Pete Jackson @petejackson.bsky.social · 01/02/2026Delighted to have booked this walking tour for the Easter holidays @manchesterhistory.uk #historyteacher 120

Pete Jackson @petejackson.bsky.social · 30/11/2025Great time at the snooker with my Dad and brother in York! Great fun 180
Pete Jackson @petejackson.bsky.social · 16/11/2025The enquiry ends with a formative assessment knowledge review and a free writing task where students have the freedom to answer the puzzle of the enquiry question with few prompts aside from some key historical language and a model to guide them. Huge thanks to the history community! 030
Pete Jackson @petejackson.bsky.social · 16/11/2025The stories focused around Liverpool are great for building a sense of depth into their understanding of the impact of the slave trade and also its legacies on places like Liverpool. It's great to also share with students the book Liverpool and the Transatlantic Slave Trade and who is behind it. 140
Pete Jackson @petejackson.bsky.social · 16/11/2025The enquiry then moves to Britain looking at the impact of the Slave Trade in Liverpool and also 'beyond the metropole' looking at local stories like Harewood House and Nunnington Hall - thanks to the ideas of @cpalmerhistory.bsky.social for influencing this. 120
Pete Jackson @petejackson.bsky.social · 16/11/2025The enquiry then looks at the changes to the Caribbean - influenced by the Liverpool book and the Changing Histories series we use the story of Mahogany to focus on both the environmental impact and the human impact of the plantations. 110
Pete Jackson @petejackson.bsky.social · 16/11/2025Students then focus on learning about the Middle Passage - studying the story of the slave ship The Zong, the story of Olaudah Equiano and crucially focusing on the resistance of African people on the voyages. 120
Pete Jackson @petejackson.bsky.social · 16/11/2025Students then focus on the impact of the Slave Trade on the Gold Coast - focusing on how the slave trade impacted West Africa using some of the fab scholarship from Jim Walvin (who was one of my lecturers at York University in the 1990s) 110
Pete Jackson @petejackson.bsky.social · 16/11/2025The enquiry begins in West Africa where its crucial to tell students the story of West Africa before the Slave Trade - students have already done on an enquiry on Mali in Year 7 120
Pete Jackson @petejackson.bsky.social · 16/11/2025It's been great to adapt our enquiry - How did the Transatlantic Slave Trade change the world - using the ideas from the Liverpool and the Transatlantic Slave Trade book. Huge thanks to @colinmccormick.bsky.social @katieamery.bsky.social and @cpalmerhistory.bsky.social for your fab work on this. 270
Pete Jackson @petejackson.bsky.social · 09/11/2025The story goes on to show how the East End changed over the 20th century. Really looking forward to teaching this in the next couple of weeks #historyteacher 120
Pete Jackson @petejackson.bsky.social · 09/11/2025Some fantastic world building images in the Jack London book to really immerse students into the East End of London in 1900. If you've not read it, I would heartily recommend it 130
Pete Jackson @petejackson.bsky.social · 09/11/2025Inspired by the story of Angel Meadow in Manchester for teaching Industrial living conditions for OCR B, I've done something similar for the East End of London in the 20th century using the amazing The Abyss of London by the aptly named Jack London. This story really helps build the East End world 181
Pete Jackson @petejackson.bsky.social · 02/11/2025One of my all time favourite running routes! Beautiful 050
Pete Jackson @petejackson.bsky.social · 12/10/2025Strongly agree. So many 17th century enquiries miss out King James I. He’s not just fascinating but his reign is crucial foundational knowledge to understand what comes next. Here’s a story we use to kick off our enquiry. 042
Pete Jackson @petejackson.bsky.social · 10/10/2025Delighted to be presenting at this fantastic event organised with @1972shp.bsky.social and alongside the wonderful @cpalmerhistory.bsky.social Spread the word! #historyteacher 020
