As the drought deepens, we had high hopes of a soaking in Greater Boston. While still a few showers around today, we won’t match the soaking to the north and the deluge to the south.

Been almost two months since we had over an inch of rain. Drink it in! Solid downpours thru the evening drive and the 1st part of the night.

After the Thu//Fri storm, the weekend features a remarkable turnaround….that lasts into next week! Make plans now. This is a high confidence forecast. 📈

As if we needed another thing to divide us.

Phase two of the storm is coming tonight, and it promises to bring strong wind (gusts 50-60mph), heavy rain (another 1-2”), and briefly milder temps (low 60s) between 10p-3am. Some outages are possible.

Didn’t just break records today, we crushed them.

Sloppy mess overnight. A slight shift in temps will move these lines all around, but what’s more certain is the warmup…this weekend and next week!

It’s a messy Tuesday. Starts up around noon, wraps before dawn on Wednesday. For most, it’s a bit of snow then over to rain. Cold will hold on a little longer in central Mass & southern NH, so a light glaze of ice is possible there. The trade off is a much milder Wednesday. Near 50!

Final tallies from the Blizzard of ‘26.

Pete Bouchard @petebouchard.bsky.social · 22/02/2026
Final adjustments to the snow amounts. Starts up after 7p this evening. Wraps after 8pm Monday. Winds 45-70mph (highest at the coast/Capes). Near ZERO visibility in blowing snow. Hunker down & ride this one out tomorrow.

Pete Bouchard @petebouchard.bsky.social · 21/02/2026
The Blizzard of ‘26 👀 Gusts up to 60+ possible at the coast. White-outs, travel lockdowns, thundersnow (possible). One adjustment may be to bring the 12-18 up to Merrimack Valley & back to Worcester, but there will be a drop off point with the heavy banding. Updates to follow.

Oh look…more snow. This one doesn’t pull any punches, however. Starts 3-5p Tuesday, wraps after midnight. Not a problem for the AM commute Wednesday. (And no, the 4+ doesn’t mean you’ll get 8, 10, or 12”. More like 4.5 or 5”.)

Snow first (starts after midnight Saturday, ends in the afternoon) then the bitter cold. Winter lumbers on…our coldest in 22 years!

This is superb.

Not a direct hit, but not a miss either. Starts as ocean effect snow along the coast Saturday night. Wraps Sunday night. Some coastal flooding possible Sunday PM high tide. Gusts could top 50mph on Cape Cod/Nantucket. (That’ll make the snow hard to measure.)

Pete Bouchard @petebouchard.bsky.social · 27/01/2026
23.2” is the final tally from the storm in Boston. Took almost 4 years to nearly match the 23.6” in the blizzard of ‘23. This is Boston’s 8th highest snowfall on record for ANY month.

In the thick of it now. Heavy snow thru 9-10pm. Lighter tomorrow. Some spots already up to 10”!

Well here it is. Starts mid AM Sunday and wraps in Monday….maybe in the PM (some uncertainty there). Most intense part is late PM Sunday until 10-11pm.

Northern Lights possible tonight. We’ll battle the clouds, but the best viewing is toward morning. Point your phone’s camera at the faint glow in the sky to see it best.

Moderate to heavy snow on tap from the Seacoasf of NH to Greater Worcester in next 2-3 hrs. Some of this will be mixed with sleet at times. A solid 1-2”+ possible in those locations. Inside 495 it’s mostly rain & a little sleet.

Snow is moving through. Not a lot, but beware of slick spots. Exits well before dawn. Little mix or rain tomorrow night, then the thaw sets in!

We welcomed winter at 10:03 this morning. Now for some wintry weather Tuesday. Light snow moves in by noonish. Ends late Tue. night. Some mix with rain along immediate coast.

High winds through the early afternoon may cause outages or damage. Big ramp DOWN for the evening, then somewhat gusty overnight. Be safe!

The first 16 days of December were the coldest in 25 years in Boston. The tide turns through Friday where we rise near 60 in the wind & rain.

Lenticular clouds above Mt. Washington today. Completely harmless, they form when stable air is forced to rise over a mountain range. Note the striking resemblance to “mothership” supercell thunderstorms - which can be precursors for tornadoes.

Logan Airport finally hit the magic mark. 1st 32 of the season this morning. Tough go this year. Came so close several times. Avg is Nov. 5th. Latest is Dec 6th in 2009.

Nothing like an early season cold blast to get your attention. Highs only near 40 Tuesday with wind chills in the 20s. 🥶 Not much better in the days ahead.

Tonight's storm over us will undergo bombogenesis by morning off Cape Breton Island, NS (pic 1). This means more wind Tue. If you're counting, that's two bombs in the Maritime provinces in less than a week...& another by Thu. Real cold pours in next week (pic 2)!

Foliage peaking in Northern New England this weekend! Toasty temps through Tuesday. Sea breezes knock us back a bit at the coast. ☀️

Mild weekend ahead. Slight risk of a shower early Sunday. Steady drop in temps next week.

Wrestling with the guidance on how much rain will fall tomorrow. We've thrown our weight behind the European model (pic 1), while the US model isn't so sure (pic 2). European likely picking up on t-storms. (Placement may be off depending on where they form.)

Pete Bouchard @petebouchard.bsky.social · 22/09/2025
I’d like to think this is our best chance at a long, soaking rain in weeks, but model guidance often overplays its hand on days-long rain (and snow) forecasts. We’ll see how it plays out.

Tied for 11th driest, this (climatological) summer was also almost 2 deg. above normal (but not as hot as last summer).

Massive dust storm (called a haboob) swallowed Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix this afternoon. Ground stop as visibility dropped to zero. Haboobs originate from dry downdrafts from thunderstorms (shown in blue).

Erin go bragh! Technically, Iceland is the final destination for the storm, but while it’s nearby, we have wind tonight & early tomorrow. Surf, on the other hand, will continue to roil the coast into the weekend. Be safe at the beach!
This is the track of Erin through Tuesday of next week.Surf is rough and high at the beaches.Strong undertow, high waves and lots of beach erosion at the coast.Gorgeous weekend…with a warmup.

Big storms last two days…this time the North Shore shared the goods. Big lightning maker today. Lots of positive stroke lightning, which tells us there was plenty of ice/hail in these clouds.

Been a lil’ cool in the AM? Martha’s Vineyard on track for its 5th morning in the 40s this month (airport location). Warming trend for everyone this weekend…and a stellar one at that.

Peek at the model guidance for this afternoon. Storms start up after 1p, then intensify south of the Pike by 4-6p. Watch for gusty winds, torrential rain, & possible hail in some of the stronger storms. They bring relief from the heat late tonight.
