Sureee, it must be true if "Microsoft Casual Games president" says so. Xbox has already stated (and made clear) that they'll be "focusing on established franchises," so Obsidian will be turned into a Fallout factory assisting Bethesda.

The "promoted and laid off" thing makes me think it's basically chaos over there and they're just shooting from the hip. Poor communication and constant tearing-up of plans.

How many times do these guys need to "understand our anger and disappointment" and "regain our trust" before they... don't have do those things anymore?

Sony is likely trying to cut down on spending right now, which is fair (ignoring for a second how they got to this point). The game is probably many, many years away still, as Kojima is working on OD first, and that game doesn't even have a release date.

Shame, the upcoming Star Wars Zero Company genuinely looked good. Really gives me the ick now.

Actual quote: “so the plan is to make more money. The plan is to maximize shareholder value.” Great plan!

Just like how a person is technically "alive and well" the moment they step out of an airplane without a parachute?

This might be the worst way to learn about this game, given everything that's happened in the past few weeks. In any other context the fans would've been ecstatic...

From Asha's tweet: "These changes are about a bigger future for XBOX, not a smaller one. The next decade of gaming will be larger, more global, and more creative than anything we've seen before." Have fewer people make fewer games, make business bigger. Oh, this also means more creativity, obv.

I remember when the theme of Call of Duty was how war is terrifying, insane and incomprehensibly-gigantic. When you get off the boat, get handed only a clip of magazine and ordered to charge across the city square under withering machine-gun fire, the game was conveying something.

I guess this was coming sooner or later, but still feels too soon... One less reason (however small) to buy their next console now.

Sure, let's blame these studios for Xbox's struggles, right? Just like with Tango Gameworks.

Can't complain, since I've never actually bought a PlayStation game on PC... But I swear I was going to check out Saros if it got ported, honest!

I seriously wonder what Sony sees in Bungie at this point. What does Bungie really offer? A revenue stream? A super-secret, super-promising in-development project? Prestige? A talent pool? Market position?

If they're still working with a "professional translation agency," then why not just ask them to localize it? Do they really save that much money by having AI do the first draft? Or are they just paying lip-service to having humans sign off on the translations?

I'm finally free... I can finally move on after 5 years of agonizing over the value proposition of buying a PS5.

I'm sorry, Xbox execs constantly pull a 180º and spout corpo-speak, it's become real hard to take anything they say at face value. "I will not flood our ecosystem with slop" still sounds like a line carefully manufactured by PR and market research.

Not even 5 years after Sony bought them (Sep 2021). And they didn't have another remake/remaster project for the studio? Or another PlayStation project for them to run support for? Or a single original pitch from them that looked good???

The simple fact is that Epic pulled the game 24 hours before its release. Can't comment on how exactly the age ratings and the store policies work, but this feels like a dick move, especially to a studio they supposedly "like."

Maybe their social media team is also run by AI, because no human PR person would've picked this example and thought, "this is fine."

It's not like they can do much about it, but I don't like how they're touting their registration numbers. It feels like "we know you're gonna show up anyway, and even if you don't show, someone else will, so we don't see a problem."

I will mostly remember him for the Bungie livestream that (for some reason) went ahead immediately after the plagiarism scandal broke the news. Whatever really happened, I felt sorry for him as he sat there looking absolutely miserable and humiliated as chat clowned on him non-stop.

"by carefully assess [sic] appropriate use cases" Maybe having AI check your grammar on the financial results you publish is an appropriate use case.

Hopefully Netflix is so busy with the film/TV studios and IP that they just leave the gaming division alone to make what they want to make and are good at.

Skeptical... Never forget the Cyberpunk 2077 launch - multiple "we need a couple more months" delays, busted last-gen versions (that they hid from the public until release), the disastrous release state and allegations of crunch. Using a new engine wouldn't magically make development go smoother.

Good article. I suspected it's because UX is at the bottom of the list when shipping a game. Basically, "money."

It sounds like this is what the source "believes to have happened." Don't want to defend Rockstar, but the "technicality" may be something that's more serious. Unless we see in the court documents what exactly Rockstar accused the 34 employees of doing, we may never know.

"Yeah, I stole it, what of it?" I keep forgetting they're owned by Microsoft, I'm sure it is aggressively "encouraged" within the studio, regardless of whatever Phil Spencer might say in public.

perseii8 @perseii8.bsky.social · 12/11/2025
They sound awfully confident about a 5-month delay... Never say never, but that's a really short time to change the design on a fundamental level AND win back the crowd. Halo Infinite got A YEAR long delay and it still wasn't enough.

"We feel quite good about this date"? Mate, you said that last time... "Zelnick responded when IGN asked how confident he was that Rockstar would hit fall 2025 for GTA 6. "So we feel really good about it."" - Take Two CEO, February 2025 These execs will just say anything to calm investors.

Never really understood Amazon's enthusiasm for MMORPGs. A shame that so many developers were made to work on these and are now getting kicked out.

2.1 million units in half-a-year, for a 2019 video game??? That looks really high, considering its lifetime sales is 10.7 million, and it sold 2.7 million in its first 6 months of release. Did something happen recently?

It's difficult to take anything these executives are saying seriously after the spectacular collapse of the Xbox brand, the studios and consumer sentiment. Which all came after repeated reassurances and projections from these executives. At this point I'd trust anonymous leaks more.

...he said, smiling vacantly at the investors gathered before him, as he pondered who he was going to fire for this and how he was going to order his lazy underlings to cram this into EA FC 27 without giving them extra time and resources

Sorry I stopped watching after the prologue section, because I would like to experience the game first myself. From the prologue it sounds like the game (and the video) is something special. I will come back to watch it in full when I finish the game, but congratulations and thank you!

Is it worth sitting through 2 hours and 50 minutes for? Just like gamers that are turned off by gigantic mega-games that just won't end, I've become a little tired of mega-long blockbuster movies...
